"The Yamanas Hotel": A traditional hotel

by yoliherrero

When I was in Ushuaia I stayed in "The Yamanas Hotel"; This name comes froma the first tribes in this area. The hotel is far from downtown but this does not matter because there are a lot of taxis in the city.
The hotel is tasteful. The decoration, wooden furniture and traditional tools, in the hall and in the romms is nice.

Xelena Deluxe: A warm hotel

by yoliherrero

When we were in Calafate, we were in a very nice hotel; the "Xelena Deluxe". This hotel is new and beautiful. The rooms are big and warm. In the spa, there are two swimingpools with hot water; One inside and the other one is outside. The view from them is the Argentinian Lake and it´s spectacular. In the restaurant, the food and the prices are fantastic, and the views from there are also nice. The employees are very kind

Cabañas Villa Pañil: Tranquility

by patagoniapaul

The cabaña accommodation at Villa Pañil was one of the highlights of a magnificent weekend. A lovelier setting is hard to imagine and quieter will hardly be possible.

The well appointed cabañas have a lovely view across Lake Perito Moreno Este with its own small private beach. It offers satellite TV, a fully equipped kitchen, gas heating and two bedrooms upstairs. Everything is clean and well maintained. The manager, Horacio (who speaks fluent English), went out of his way to ensure a happy stay for us.

When we go back to Bariloche we will not even look for something else, we will head straight for Villa Pañil!

Tranquility and a lovely view. A comfortable 20km drive from downtown Bariloche.

Waldorf Hotel, Buenos Aires: Centrally Located Budget Accommodation

by AlettaCrofton

The Waldorf is homely with friendly staff. The continental breakfast is delicious with freshly baked crossaints every day. The hotel is 2 minutes walk from Florida Street and the staff at the reception desk are always ready to assist with information, directions or with getting a taxi.

Homely atmosphere, good location

Iguazu Jungle Lodge: Iguazu Falls - Best Accommodation

by VictoriaCampbell

When they said a loft had been reserved for us, little did we know exactly what we were getting. Upon arriving at our "house", we were astonished to find a full kitchen, living area with fireplace, full dining room, a 3 piece and 4 piece bathroom and 3 bedrooms with sleeping for at least 7 people. The dining room, kitchen and 2 of the bedrooms have balconies that reached into the rainforest. Our 2 storey accommodations were ideal. The pool area complete with bar, pool table, darts, ping pong table and showering facilities were a bonus. The staff promptly arrived each morning at our door with our breakfast which included piping hot coffee and fresh squeezed orange juice. Our rooms were cleaned everyday while we were gone and the staff was more than pleased to assist us in our endeavours to make our holidays complete. Lucas (of Lucas@iguassu-misted-falls-vacation.com) was our hired guide for our stay at Iguazu Falls and recommended this establishment. Anyone visiting the falls area is encouraged to stay here. It is located just inside the Argentine border and has a wonderful restaurant located just around the corner at the St. George hotel. The accommodations were $150.00 U.S a night and well worth the price.

Buenos Aires: Viasui Hotel: Cheap and nicely located - and that's it!

by mohashimoto

The hotel was one of the cheapest in our travel package, and the location was great - in the middle of downtown. Well, at least it looked great on the map. The street where ViaSui is located looks like those forsaken streets present in every city's downtown - dark and dirty, with occasional hobos. No wonder the door is kept locked. Sometimes you have to put on a little show to get the doorman's attention.

The lobby is small and has few sofas, so you often have to sit in the breakfast area. The lift is old and very, very cosy. You have to open two wooden doors to get into it and two more - on the opposite side - to get out of it. Watch your step! They never quite stop on the same level of the floor.

You open your room door with a card - put it in the box, wait for a green light to flash, take the card out and open the door while the green light is on. Then grope in the darkness for a box on the wall at your right, near the door. Remember, the opening for the card is on the opposite side of the door. Leave the card there, it is obligatory if you want some electricity in the room, which is always nice. Turn on the lights. The air conditioner remote is near the telly.

To open the window, lift a small lever between the panes. To open or close the outside blinds, you have to start a quest for the "box" mentioned on the instructions plastered to the window pane. Here is a tip: behind the veils on your right side, right next to the window, you will find out that it has a larger metal structure than its left. There's a small knob to it. Really small. Pull it and you will find a rope. Pull it down to open the blinds and up to close it. Oh, to close it you'd better catch the lower end of the rope, pull it in your direction to release it, and then pull it up.

Beware of the shower! You have to shower in a small bathtub - seriously - so you have to balance yourself not to fall. You'd better pull the curtains inside the bathtub if you don't want to be surrounded by water once you step out of it. The left tap if for hot water. It comes fast and hot, so beware.

If you'd like to use a blowdryer, or even charge your cellphone, go to the electrical supply in front of the hotel and buy an adaptor, otherwise you won't be able to plug it to the socket. Oh, and there is a safe inside the wardrobe.

The safe is another adventurous quest. It is very simple, actually. You just have to press the button inside it, set your password and use it whenever you open or close the door. Jut like the instructions wiritten in front of it. But to find the damn button is definitely compared to the quest for the Holy Grail. Tip: it is on the innermost edge of the door - you cannot see it, you have to grope for it. And do not open the plastic case inside the safe, it's just batteries.

The staff is very friendly and helpful, you can ask them for a taxi with no charge. But check out at the last possible minute - no use checking out earlier. The receptionists change turns and forget to tell each other who has already checked out.

The breakfast is terrible, I mean terrible! The bread there is either very sweet (brioches) or a bit sweet. You will learn how to operate a toaster. You will eat cornflakes, eggs and ham every morning until you turn into an American. Sometimes there is cheese. To drink, awfully weak coffee, milk and some artificial juice. Apparently, there is tea if you ask.

I recommend the hotel to people on a tight budget and with no frills.

On the brighter side, the room is comfy enough and rather clean, the bathroom is small but has a large mirror. And near the wardrobe you will find another mirror, a full-body one, very good for us vain women. Also, the hotel is an excellent start point to know Buenos Aires by foot, taxi or metro, since it's near the main touristic spots like Calle Florida, Plaza de Mayo, San Telmo and Recoleta. Remember that Plaza de Mayo is the start point of most metro lines in Buenos Aires.

Promenade Hotel: Good mid-price hotel in downtown B.A.

by iwys

The Promenade Hotel is a comfortable, mid-price option. There are 61 rooms and apartments in a fairly modern concrete block. The staff are friendly and helpful. It's definitely worth bargaining at the reception desk when you check in. In 2008, a double room intially cost A$220 per night, but when I said that I was moving out to a cheaper place, they dropped the price to A$180. Ask for a 'special deal'. It is a better deal for couples than singles as, on the hotel's official web site, the prices are currently listed as A$300 for a single or a double.

Note: The photo is the hotel's official picture, not mine.

Gran Hotel Balbi: A dim drag

by mialwebb

So where do I begin, I can say that the decor was very "Argentina", there is a doorman and it sits in a nice location in Mendoza. There's a little hot dog place on the corner thatg I would recommend visiting especially if you aren't down with all the fresh beef (sorry, but I'd prefer mine marinated in the freezer for a couple years) and blood sausage. There's also a Mickey D's across the street. The hotel was dusty and dim, overpriced....and don't make the mistake of getting them to do your laundry, we paid about $10 for one load of clothes and even provided the detergent. There was a continental breakfast with the typical argentine hard rolls and thin ham, cheese....oh, but the orange juice was wonderful. They do have a bar and you can special order food.......yeah. There's a pool, the have actual bathtubs. Housekeepers were friendly, find out who yours is and tip her (they work hard) but only stay here if you cant find a hotel that overlooks the mtns.

pool, cat roaming around the dining room, orange juice, bar, cool elevator. location is ok

La Merced del Alto: Cahi's Best Hotel

by DaveG0906

This hotel set above Cachi, has comanding views of the surrounding countryside. It is built in the style of an old monastry and has only 12 rooms. This makes the hotel feel exclusive. Breakfast is included but lunch and dinner can also be had. The hotel is on an unmade a short distance away from the main village.

There is a swimming pool and free internet access. The staff are friendly and welcoming. The rooms are spacious and the room we had looked out towards the distant mountains. The only sounds you hear to wake up to are the donkeys and cockerals!

There is a bar with happy hour, although we couldn't work out what was included in the happy hour!
