Horrible experiencia!!!

Travel Tips for La Plata

Wash your teeth!

by andal13

In our way to the Museum, we found this curious mural... I think it is the Dentistry School, but I am not 100 % sure. Anyway, it shows a funny way to promote dental health.

Towards the end of 2005, after travelling for nearly 7 months, I completed my circle around South America and headed back to Buenos Aires, with side trips to Villa Elisa and Mar del Plata.

Hope you enjoy my reminiscences in my travel-blog in 11) ARGENTINA AGAIN as I connect the dot back to Buenos Aires.

Young - Young people all around...

"Diagonal's city"

Here you can find a map of La Plata.
Perfectly planned in 1882 by Pedro Benoit, has a green square every 6 blocks (every block is 100mtx100x100x100).

"Young environment"

University city, has a lot of "local" inmigration from all the country.
A lot of young people from March to December - desert in summer time!

LA PLATA: CATHEDRAL AND MUSEUM

by swesn

The city of La Plata is just 1.5 hours away from Buenos Aires (once you made it through the heavy traffic, it is a breeze to get here).

It is one of the 'most planned' city I have ever been to. There is a square with a central park and two diagonal avenues, north-south and east-west. The rest of the city are on a rectangular grid and the streets are numbered consecutively.

At one end of the main square, there sits the gorgeous and Gothic-styled Cathedral of La Plata. This is apparently the largest church in Argentina. You can do a little tour of the Cathedral which includes a visit up one of the spires by elevators (yep, no huffing and puffing). The visit is worth it as the Gothic architecture can be truly appreciated up close.

La Plata has an interesting Museum of Natural Science.

Drinking 'mate' (and grimacing at the bitterness) under the sun... is a must-do during summer in Argentina.

At the end of my SA trip, I visited my friend Raquel whom I met in Salvador, Brazil, and spent a few days doing summer activities with her family, like going to the club and lying next to the swimming pool and drinking 'mate'.
