Found this hotel on the web (www.mardelplata.com) and it sounded good. "Cable TV, AC, gym, pool, suana, restaurant and near the beach/casino." What's not to like? Web price was 90P, but the off the street price was 100P/$34USD.
It is a large multi-story hotel, several blocks from the beach/casino and on a busy/noisy street (much quieter at night thank God).
Asked for 2 beds at the desk, but ended up with one. Had plenty of hot water in a good sized but very dark bathroom. The bed was comfortable. There was no control in the room for the AC/heat. The breakfast (included in price) was typical with coffee, orange juice, media lunas, bread and cereal.
The Hotel Conde is located in downtown, so there is no shortage of nearby restaurants, shopping, internet, etc.
I don't really think this is what I would consider to be a '4 star' hotel, but it was very nice and a decent value for the money. There was some construction noise during the day, but couldn't fault them for that. During a heavy rain the elevator stopped working.
No complaints, but it was a bit of a walk for a place "near the beach".
We stayed at an amazing House For Rent, called MADRESELVA.
Its a very big house, built in wood and stone, has TV (Cable), wonderful kitchen and living room and in the 1º floor has 2 bedrooms.
I really recommend this place because its very nice and its not expensive. We payed $ 160.- (U$S 53.-) for 6 nights.
if you re thinking of renting an apartment make sure it s not too far from the coast and not too near the bus station (when it rains too much, this region floods).
i strongly recommend renting anything on Av. Colón, calle Güemes ( Guemes street) or San Martin, a pedestrian street (la Peatonal San Martín).
Calash, a very nice hotel located at one of the trendiest and most fashionable neighbourhoods of the city, is a two stars hotel and it's got 21 rooms (single, double, family).
Parking, several lounge rooms and a restaurant where a delicious breakfast or fastfood is served. The location is very convenient, close to the beach and a few steps from the trendiest street.
