Travel Tips for Tigre

Tigre y las verdes islas del Delta

by Santiagov

Dont know if appropiate to recommend a book in this section, but for "readers" it might be a good option.
I found this book published in 2004 and only in spanish in a top B.A. bookstore. Being a Nature and Delta lover i found this book is the best and most comprehensive source of information with excellent pics. of the area.
The author is Silvina Ruiz Moreno de Bunge.

"Tigre"

This spot in the North of the Province of Buenos Aires is undoubtedly a piece of living history. The name Tigre is derived from an old story of jaguar hunters. It is said that a couple of very famous and virtuous hunters used to live in the region.
Tigre is a destination neither foreigners nor local people should miss.

The port of Tigre lodges the open market
You can get there by taking the picturesque Tren de la Costa(Riverside Train). After stopping at San Isidro station to visit its attractive shopping centre, you can continue on the same train to Tigre where you will navigate small rivers and channels enjoying nature in all its splendor.

There are also two museums in Tigre, the Navy Museum and the Sarmiento Museum.
Another popular place in The Delta is Isla Martin Garcia that is a short ferry trip from Tigre and only 1.2 miles off the Uruguayan coast. The park-like island is an all-in-one historical monument, nature reserve and recreational retreat. With the densely forested delta nearby, the island was used as a prison camp .

Unforgettable sailing in the Delta Tigre

by Santiagov

"Suggested day tours in Buenos Aires"

The delta is one of those unforgettable sites that remain forever in the memory of its visitors. Sailing across this area is the best choice to get to know its rivers, its islands and its people from the inside. A Voyage not to Be Missed Indeed .
The Delta (aprox. 200 hundred rivers and islands) is one of the "pearls" while in B. A. for a visit. Tigre is a small city thats interesting to visit from Monday to Fridays, gets crowded on week ends.

Tigre is the staring point for excursions into the lower portion of the vast delta created by the waters of the Parana River. The main branch running past Tigre the Rio Lujan. Here, in Tigre, in 1806, local forces launched the counterattack that drove English invaders back out of BsAs. The town became a very popular weekend spot with many huge rowing clubs in evidence. Long a port town, the Estacion Fluvial Tigre is a transportation hub for the Delta.

Tigre

by dargains

Tigre is located in the outskirts of Buenois Aires
It´s a very different place, because it´s organized arround the Delta of several different rivers, so the only way to get to the more far aways houses is by boat.
It´s also a place where rich people has it´s summer houses
