My boyfriend and i are travelling to San Juan from Canada to visit his family in San Juan. We have a small baby (5 months old) and are wondering if someone could help us with recommendations on activities in Mendoza, San Juan or Cordoba. We are very active, love nature, hiking, history, sports and FUN. Also we have an opportunity to have the baby babysat so not only kid friendly suggestions are welcome. Thanks in advance~K&F
You have so much to choose from in all these areas that you might spend some time looking at this web site http://www.welcomeargentina.com/index_i.html click on Cuyo for Mendoza and San Juan and Mountain Range for Cordoba. There is trekking, white water rafting, hiking, horseback riding, wine tours, swimming, biking and on and on. You don't mention your dates but if it is in the next month or so be prepared for hot temps. Mendoza can get very hot during the days so plan accordingly.
Thanks for your help, Porteno! We will definitely check it out. We are going between March15 and April 15. Hopefully the temperature will be nice at this time.
Be advised that Easter (Pasqua) is on April 12 and that is a huge holiday week for Argentina, so make sure you reserve well in advance or you may find yourselves without transportation or rooms. The week prior to Easter Sunday is pretty much a holiday so prepare.
Thanks for warning us, we never thought of that. Do you know if there are hiking areas where we can bring our baby along? We have a baby sling so we will carry him on our backs. I think this may definitely pose a challenge, though...what do you think?
I really could not answer that question, but you might contact this agency and ask them http://www.lagunadeldiamante.com/quienes.htm they provide a high level service for trekking and other outdoor activities.
Personally I think it would be difficult at best to carry a baby on one of these treks. Not sure your child would appreciate the activity :)
Once in Mendoza, the tourism office has information on lots of other guides and programs available.
