Accede to the province by: National routes 12 and 14, as much from the north as from the south of the mesopotamic region. Through the interprovincial bridge "General Manuel Belgrano" from the Chaco. And through the International bridges: "Paso de los Libres -Uruguayana" (President A. P. Justo International bridge). And "Santo Tome - Sao Borjas” from Brasil. Also two daily regular flights to the airports of Corrientes and Resistencia (Chaco 25 km far away), connects the province with the rest of the country. The federal capital is 900km away, the waterfalls of Iguazu are 650km away, and the borders with Brazil and Uruguay 450km away. Corrientes offer many and varied attractives to the tourists who visit the region all year. Has more of 750km of coasts on rivers and tame lagoons, a true paradise for the fishermen, white sand beaches extend to enjoy the quality of the sun. Crossing the small towns where the jesuítics missions were based, we can meet again with our history, surrounded in a dawn of spiritual and faith that only Corrientes can offer. Their magnificent carnivals full of music and color last all the summer, and contrast with the calm of the Esteros of Iberá where a rich variety of animals and plants can be appreciated.

All the tradition is reflected on its ranches, that offer regional cavalcades and special dishes to its guests, adorned with rounds of mate (infusion), chipa (cheese cake) and chamamé music, a reflection of the joy and cordiality of correntinian people

Mate and friends

This infusion made from the yerba mate, was used originally by the guaraníes. The jesuitics that settled down in the zone improved their culture and with the time this drink became very popular in all Argentina and part of the neighboring countries. You can’t drink mate without trying the chipá (cheese cake) in any visit to the Province.

In Corrientes there are remarkable artisan who make mates (recipient to drink the yerba mate) and bombillas (pipes) of excellent quality, that can be used to enjoy Mate with friends or like refined objects of decoration.

CORRIENTES, A LAND WITH HISTORY

The rich correntinian history is reflected in the corners of its older towns, where it is possible to appreciate vestiges of the guaraní culture, to discover print of books of the jesuítics missions and to drill in the past of the fights for the independence, finding our own history. You can cross the hole Jesuitic route by the Uruguay river or just visit Yapeyú, where General San Martín was born, where his native house is conserved and where the Sanmartinian Museum is.



With Chamamé rhythm

The Chamamé is the music that identifies the correntinian people and the litoral region. Its more well known song, Kilometro 11, is a true hymn of Corrientes. In Mburucuyá is the Chamamé Museum.



Myths and Legends

The province of Corrientes has a rich tradition of myths and popular legends that has been transmitted from generation to generation until our days. Many of them. Lie the Pombero have its origin with the guaranies. It’s described as a small, thin and hairy man, who wear an enormous straw hat. Crosses the forests, after the 12 of the noon, with a stickon his hand to take care of birds. He is also known as the birds protector.

We had planned to pass by Corrientes, but discovering this city on Sunday wasnn't maybe the best idea we had... It was like erring in a ghost town... Fortunately, there are some spots not to miss (see my tips and travelogues on this page)...

On comptait bien passer pas Corrientes, mais decouvrir cette ville un dimanche ne fut pas notre meilleure decision. On a eu l'impression d'etre dans une ville morte... Heureusement, y avait quelques trucs a voir... (cf Travelogues de cette page).
