When to book everything?

by andrew.rowe86

Hey everyone, Im going to Mendoza in Feb 2011 and was wondering when is the best time to book trips for activities whilst in Mendoza?
I want to do some winery tours and trips to the Andes etc.. is it best to wait until I arrive in Mendoza or pre book before I go?
Im a young guy travelling solo - can anyone reccomend some good activities to do?

Oi Andrew,

It all depends on how long of a trip you are planning. If you only have a few days to visit Mendoza, go to google.com.ar, and look for info on Mendoza...you will find a lot! If you are just wandering around (as I do), wait until you get there, find a hostel, and talk to people you meet there....then, make plans. Last year Mendoza seemed to be full of younger back-packers from several countries, so you should not have a problem doing this.

Activities in Argentina? Check out the Carnivals in Guayleguaychu or Concordia or Corrientes or Cordoba. Again, you can wait until the last minute to buy tickets for the nightly parades, BUT, look for a hotel or hostel NOW!

I would strongly suggest that you study intensive Spanish before you leave, and take NOTHING (ie, good watch, laptop, wallet, etc) with you that you are not willing to lose. Buen viaje!

I'll be in Mendoza for 7 days what do you think?

Are there any good travel agents I should use for the activities like wine tours, trekking etc?

Oi Andrew,

Check out: ww.welcomeargentina.com. I use this site frequently, and find it very helpful for local information on Mendoza, as well as other cities in Argentina. Of course, more info is found on google.com.ar! Bus travel is found on: ww.plataforma10.com; ww.solobus.com.ar; or my favorite, ww.centraldepasajes.com.ar. Buen viaje!

Although the city of Mendoza is situated in the middle of an arid region (we called it "the dessert"), it is full of trees. Spring and Autunm time is delicious to visit the city, walk on the pedestrian streets and have "alfajores" and "empanadas" with "vino tinto".

take a Cafe Cortado once in a while

by Trekki about (everywhere)

If walking around in Mendoza makes you tired, just make a stop in one of the cafes in the street and buy yourself a "Cafe Cortado" .

The price may vary, but is usually around less than 1 USD.

Cafe Cortado is espresso with fumed milk.

Don´t miss the High Andes - Part One

by pili

A traditional excursion throughout the year, is start in Mendoza city, going along the Mendoza River, up to the border with Chile. 100 km from the city you can find the Valle de Uspallata, setting of the native Huarpes during pre-Hispanic times.
The tour goes on with a visit to the historical bridge over the Picheuta River, then to Polvaredas and Punta de Vacas.-
