Unique Quality: Very good location

Travel between Santiago and Mendoza

by KLHoving

Several couples will be concluding a tour of Chile on the 31st of March and would like to determine if it is realistic to travel from Santiago to Mendoza on land and then fly to Buenos Aires and back to Santiago. How long is bus travel from Santiago to Mendoza? How freqeunt are the flights from Mendoza to Buenos Aires? Is the land trip to Mendoza worth the time and trouble? Thanks for any information you may be able to provide.

The bus takes 6-7 hours from Santiago to Mendoza. If you don't want to fly to B.A. you can get a flight from Mendoza to Santiago. The end of March should be OK for weather. The pass closes an average of about 25 days a year because of snow, but that is mainly in July/August.
There are buses and also minivans which do the trip from Santiago to Mendoza. You need to take your passport (not a photocopy) with you when you book.

The flights from mendoza to buenos are daily and there a couple of companies, so you have plenty of them. The average cost of those flights should be around usd200 (round trip) from mdz to bue. The land trip from santiago to mendoza is worth just if you are going to stay in mendoza for a wile; otherwise, I would recomend to fly from santiago to buenos aires.
Good luck

Travel Tips for Mendoza

Skiing las lenas

by Kevin_oms1

I will also be skiing in Las Lenas in July and August. I am looking for a place to stay for up to 4-6 weeks as close to las Lenas as possible. Any recomendations? Mendoza seems about 3 hours drive in good weather. The snow was great last year in June according to the weather data.

So good we ate there thrice

by TheWanderingCamel about Terruno at Club Tapiz

Not only is it the in-house restaurant at Club Tapiz and therefore wonderfully convenient for guests who have only to walk across the lawn, but Terruno has a reputation as one of the best restaurants in Mendoza. We ate there the first night because of the convenience - the decision to return for the second and third times was based entirely on the ambience and the quality of the food and wine - it was that good!

The restaurant has two dining rooms, both in the oldest part of the original house. Downstairs - with warm burgundy walls and dark wood - is an elegant and sophisticated space. Upstairs has a rustic feel, views over the vineyards and soft green painted wood-panelled walls. Both areas serve the same menu.

Booking is advisable- even for house guests. People drive out here from all around Mendoza and the restaurant is constantly mentioned in guides and travel articles. To be perfectly honest, apart from a delicious dish of stuffed and roasted baby goat, a fabulous rack of baby Patagonian lamb, and some seriously good cheese, I can't give any more detail of what we ate. I can remember the appreciative silences as we all tucked in. The menu at Terruno is, as you would expect from a top-notch restaurant, full of seasonal and local specialities with touches of the best of European and Asian food styles all married together into a foodie's delight. Chef Max Casa is held to be one of Argentina's best and it shows. The wine list is extensive, the sommelier very knowledgeable and, if you're staying at the hotel, you can linger as long as you like over your meal knowing that all you have to do is walk a few yards to the lounge or back to your room at the end of a marvellous meal.

Ruins of the cathedral of San Francisco

by omar_samra

Located in the corner of what used to be the main plaza of Mendoza before the frightening tremor that leveled this city just under a hundred and fifty years ago. The only proof of what this place looked like is through paintings and impression of a few artists. Most were travellers passing through Mendoza only a year ot two before the quake. Still, go and talk to the students on the site...they have lots of very interesting information...The museo del area fundacional can shed some light on that too.

Cerro de la Gloria

by Gaspar&Floppy

This monument was built to honor to the General Jose de San Martin and his army that liberated Argentina, Chile and Peru.
The place is a beautiful hill located in San Martin's Park and the monument was built with the iron of the cannons that San Martin's army used.

The valley of Potrerillos

by pili

Potrerillos is a village that is located in a valley of colourful hills that contrast with the green oases that border the crystal clear lakes.
There, you can enjoy the practice of rafting, riding , trekking and mountain bike. -
