Hostel Lao is a small hostel but pretty good to meet other travelers. I would not recommend taking tours through the hostel or eating their BBQs as they are more expensive than outside the hostel. For example, its US$14 for BBQ but I found a place that gave me an awesome dinner for US$4.50 so like 1/3 the price.
I moved to Hostel Internacional Mendoza .. Its much much cheaper, a bigger hostel and more conveniently located with really really friendly staff that don't try to sell you stuff all the time.
Unique Quality: It has a pool (albeit small) which must be great in the summer months ... Never been to a hostel with a pool.
Directions: Near bus station ... Convenient if your just in Mendoza as a stopover ... Worth the extra money for that alone.
i just wanted a cheap accomodation close to the bus station and hostel LAO seemed nice. I gave 15pesos for the taxi ride from the airport and I was surprised. The stuff were very friendly, helpful every time I had a question about the city (and I had a lot) and the atmosphere was very nice in this hostel where I met a lot of other travelers.
They can arrange for you any tour around (horse riding, mountains, wine tour etc) and they also called me a taxi whenever I needed one.
Like many other hostels they offer free wine after 20:00, the rooms were ok but not specia.l
I had to buy a lock for my cupboard (there is a store two blocks away) and I gave 6.5 euros per night for a 6 dorm bed.
the breakfast was just medium.
Directions: 5’ walk from the bus terminal, just walk up Allem Street for three blocks before turning left into Rioja Street. The hostel is 10’ away from Plaza Independencia.
