Accomodation

by janetlee

Has any VT member stayed in Los Troncos Resort/Hotel in Puerto Iguaza, Argentina before? I have read many good reviews on this hotel. I have written to make enquiries to this hotel website. However, no response whatsoever is received. Does anyone know of their contact? Or any website/agent I can contact in order to make reservation?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Accomodation

by Odinnthor

Not stayed there, as my tours to Iguazu stayed at the Cataratas on the Brazil side.

However, here is what other VT members have to say about the hotel:

http://www.virtualtourist.com/hotels/South_America/Argentina/Provincia_de_Misiones/Puerto_Iguazu-1536356/Hotels_and_Accommodations-Puerto_Iguazu-Los_Troncos_BB-BR-1.html

Here is a site where you can book it: Have not used it so cannot say if it is a good one.

If you Google - Los Troncos Resort/Hotel - you will have more choices. Hope this helps....d:o)

Travel Tips for Puerto Iguazú

where to find money....

by mindcrime

There are several exchange offices in Puerto Iguazu so don’t worry about your precious euros/dollars, they will turn into pesos in a few minutes! :)

On Avenida Victoria Aguirre I found 2 and one of them was open till 20:30 even on weekends. There is also a bank (probably with better rate) but you have to go there in the morning (expect a lot of people) but usually in the morning the tourists go for the falls! The good thing is that the banks has 2 ATM so you can take money even in the night….

Two Rivers Meet

by Bwana_Brown

This view from the Argentinian side of the meeting point of the two rivers gives an idea of the lay of the land.

Flowing in from the right is the Iguazu River, with Brazil on the opposite bank at the right side of the photo. Iguazu Falls lies 28-km up the river from here, where it plunges over the almost 300-foot high basalt rock cliff into the gorge that it has cut for itself.

The Parana River is flowing toward the viewer, dividing Paraguay on the left from Brazil. The world's largest operating power station at Itaipu Dam is located about 17-km directly upstream from here. The Parana is a very large river, about the same size as the Mississippi and second only to the Amazon in South America for area drained. Even this far down the river from the Dam, the surface was still churning with ripples as I watched.

The Falls - Argentine side - Lower circuit

by Frisbeeace

The lower circuit has a catwalk that takes you to the bottom of some incredible falls and to the Iguazu river where you can board a motorboat that takes you to even deeper and closer to the devil's throat.

brazilian side of the Falls

by mindcrime

The brazilian side of the Falls is easy to be done in half a day. It took me less than 2 hours to walk the basic path which is just 1,5 km.

You can walk up to the end of the path, admiring the view on the way and taking panoramic photos of the Falls. At the end of the path there is an elevator, from there you can go up and has a nice last panoramic view of the Falls.

In general, the brazilian side offers better opportunities for panoramic photos although I still prefer the argentinian side where you have the real thing in front of you because you walk more time next or into the falls.

Don’t forget at the end of the path to visit the café (or the restaurant) to relax for a while before returning back to your hotel because the view is nice from up there.

The entrance fee is 38 pesos(8euros) and you can also pay in brazilian currency of course. There is a free bus waiting for you that will take you up to the park and leave you at the entrance of the path. You will catch the bus again at the end of the path after taking the elevator. Don’t worry, it’s really well organized.

Gateway town to Iguazu Falls

by barryg23

Puerto Iguazu is the main access town for Iguazu Falls, and hence is full of restaurants, cafes and hotels catering to the large amounts of visitors who visit this area. The falls are located in Puerto Iguazu National Park, 20 km east of Puerto Iguazu town, and can be reached by buses which leave regularly from Puerto Iguazu bus station.

The big attraction is of course the falls but there are a couple of worthwhile sights in the town too. This page is only about the town of Puerto Iguazu - for information on the falls please see my Iguazu Falls National Park page.
