Overnight in Brasil or Argentina

by hillelarkin

I will arrive to P. Iguasu from Buenos Aires on Wednesday evening. I will have a full day of Thursday to travel the Iguasu Falls on both sides. However, I have to catch a very early flight on Friday from the Brasilian side airport to Rio de Janeiro.
My question is where it is better to overnight: in P. Iguasu (argentina) or Foz de Iguassu (Brasil) or to split it.
If I stay both days in P. Iguasu (Argentina) how long in advance I have to leave in order to clear the borders and to get to the Brasilian Airport (the flight is scheduled for 06.00 !!).

Thanks a lot

I am sending a link with paraguayan, brazilian and argentinean areas.
It will help you in positioning. Foz do Iguaçu airport is inserted on it.

Book in advance a taxi in order to not miss your flight.

Travel Tips for Puerto Iguazú

Derelict Hotel

by Bwana_Brown

The Esturion Hotel was located only two blocks away from where the Iguazu River flows into the Parana River, so I took a stroll down Av. Tres Fronteras (Three Borders) to have a look.

One of the first things that I came across was this shell of a hotel, abandoned in mid-construction. This was the only structure like this that stood out in Puerto Iguazu, but we saw three or four examples of this while we were in Foz do Iguacu, Brazil. Maybe it had something to do with the Argentinian financial melt-down a few years ago when inflation got out of control and the government had to severely devalue their currency. That is the same reason why things are still 'dirt cheap' in Argentina if you want to visit from outside the country!

First View of the Falls

by easterntrekker

We heard the falls before we saw them.It wasn't long before we caught our first glimpse of some spray and our cameras got busy. .we imagined what it would be like to cruise along the river and happen upon this sight. Yikes!

Bird Park

by mindcrime

Just before entering the Park Iguazu at the Brazilian side you can spend an hour at the bird park that holds some beautiful colored birds like parrots, flamingos etc What’s more I saw many other things like butterflies, crocodiles (!), turtles etc

The entrance fee is 30pesos (6euros) and it took me around 60 minutes walking around the park.

Puerto Iguazù: just strolling around

by vtveen

The town itself does not have many (interesting) sights. But is nice just to stroll around through the small town centre, situated in and around three Avenidas Brazil, Eppens and Perito Moreno and the main street in Puerto Iguazù called Avenida Victoria Aguirre. The centre offers shops, café’s and restaurants, internet café’s, travel agencies, bank offices with ATM’s and supermarkets.

There is a small square at Aguirre with a shady side walk café (for our ‘cortado chico’) and some nice gift shops with original souvenirs.

But we also often walked around other streets, between the centre and the bus station at Cordoba. Every now and then we found some small hidden shops, nice houses with lots of flowers and flowering trees. Met friendly Argentinean people and had a chat (as far as possible without speaking Spanish).

There are two sights a little bit outside the town centre along Ruta 12. La Aripuca (a centre for appreciation of native trees) and Güira Oga (a bird sanctuary). To be honest we did not visit, but perhaps it can help you to do something 'off the beaten path' in Puerto Iguazù.

Waterfalls of Iguazu River

by burger

"Parque Nacional Iguazu"

Waterfalls and the national park which is a lifetime 'must see'.
This area is a subtropical rain forest, so it rains quite often.

Waterfalls and the national park are about 40 min. of drive with the local bus from the Puerto de Iguazu. The bus drives there every 40 min and the transport cost 3 pesos (about 1 US$) . The entry fee to the park is 30 pesos (10 US$). I do recommend to take a full journey with the guided tour trough the rain forest ( 4WD bus), hi speed boat below the waterfalls and the train to the upper falls - the cost is 84 pesos. The tour takes about 6 hours - very exciting ones.
Be sure to protect your documents, and camera becaus the humidity below the waterfalls is extreme.
