Season Accommodation advice

by sophiegrant

I desperately need some help, so it seems.... I am working for Ski School Catedral this season, my accommodation i had has fallen through,
and i am due to arrive in Argentina on Tuesday 4th July - Next week.... I
don't speak any spanish yet. So, it seems I may be looking for a
room/house/flat whatever to rent/share until mid - end of October. I am
28, female, British citizen, but Swiss Ski Instructor from London.

Any info would be really helpful.. even if you can tell me agencies or roughly how much i should pay and stuff so I don't end up getting ripped off..

Hope that helps!

Book something like the Refugio El Manu, a hostel at the base of Cerro Catedral. Once you are there it will be easier to find a shared or single accomodation. At least you will know where things are in relation to CC.

Travel Tips for San Carlos de Bariloche

Chocolate

by katmai

Given the swiss history of Bariloche chocolate making is a logical skill. And it is very well done here. There was a store called Tourista downtown that offered hundreds of choices in chocolate. Just to go in and choose a few samples was a real challenge. Very good.

Lakes Crossing to Chile

by spidermiss

*Please read the trip on my Puerto Varas's page for my personal account of the Lakes Crossing as I did the journey the opposite way round in November 2008*

You begin your journey from Bariloche to Puerto Panueo where you embark on a 1.5 hour cruise across Lago Nahuel Huapi to Puerto Blest. Then it's a short bus ride to Puerto Alegre where you catch the next catamaran across Lago Frias where the half hour crossing reaches Puerto Frias and you receive your exit stamp for Argentina. You join a minibus to travel for a further 30km through no man's land and the dense forests and bushes to the Chilean immigration/customs station where you get stamped in and continue onto Peulla for a lunch stop. In the afternoon, you take a cruise across Lago Todos Los Santos, known as The Emerald Lake, where the highlight is Volcan Osorno and travel the remaining kms by bus either to Puerto Varas or Puerto Montt.

Capital of Patagonia

by Veghel

"Lively tourist city along Nahuel Huapi lake"

San Carlos de Bariloche (or just Bariloche) is the tourism capital of Patagonia. It is a pretty big city of 100,000. There are plenty of hotels and there is a real city center with many restaurants and shops.
People say that Bariloche looks like a Swiss city, but I didn't see the similarity. Still it is a very nice place to stay, as the atmosphere is relaxed, it is clean and there is much to do!
In winter time, Bariloche and its Catedral mountain are the ski capital of South America. Unfortunately, it was summer when I visited the city.
