Cahi's Best Hotel

by DaveG0906 about La Merced del Alto

This hotel set above Cachi, has comanding views of the surrounding countryside. It is built in the style of an old monastry and has only 12 rooms. This makes the hotel feel exclusive. Breakfast is included but lunch and dinner can also be had. The hotel is on an unmade a short distance away from the main village.

There is a swimming pool and free internet access. The staff are friendly and welcoming. The rooms are spacious and the room we had looked out towards the distant mountains. The only sounds you hear to wake up to are the donkeys and cockerals!

There is a bar with happy hour, although we couldn't work out what was included in the happy hour!

Travel Tips for Cachi

CACHI : SIMPLE CHARM OF A DESERT TOWN

by swesn

Cachi is a small, dusty little desert town, at 2280m.

Nearby were peaks like Nevado de Cachi which had altitudes of above 6300m. Cachi was very quiet, tranquil and time seemed to stand still here. It retained an authentic colonial flavour. I read that people here died of old age because there was nothing else to die of.

The houses were mainly painted white or beige. Many were made of adobe, or mud. There were little iron lamps outside the houses.

Some windows, doors and street signs were made of the lightweight wood from dried-up cacti.
