CAFAYATE : CERRO SANTA TERESITA
by swesn
Just a little altar located 2km to the north of the Cafayate town.
A nice pleasant walk through the dusty little town and a short hike up the rocky hill to the altar.
There, you have quite a pleasant view of Cafayate.

El Fraile is a kind of druid... it a very small natural statue lost in a giant red rocky wall with strange forms...so in fact I have not seen it!!! I just saw it on a post card : it was marked by white stones! In fact, it was much lower than where I looked, but these strange formations I took in the picture are also worth, aren't they?

"The vineyards"
If you go to Cafayate - you should take care to enjoy the trip going there and back again - because you will be travelling thru some truely amazing landscape. And I really think you should try the local grape Torrontes which was originally imported from Spain but today only exists here. I personally find it to have some similarities to the Riesling because of it's freshness and mineralrich taste. Be aware though that the grape is produced in both dry and more sweet versions. QUEBRADA DE CAFAYATE 2
by swesn
The 'Anfiteatro' (Amphitheatre) was a narrow gorge between two walls before opening up into a theatre of sorts with very high walls.
We were leaving this place, when a lady, thinking that she was alone with her family, started to sing in the middle of the 'theatre'.
She sang a familiar little opera tune, starting and ending with 'MMMaaaaaa-ah---RRRRIIII-y-YAAA', probably titled 'Maria'.
