Centro Cultural América
This tip is NOT about the expositions and other cultural events, which are organised in/by the Centro Cultural América (see their website or just ask while in Salta), but about the building.
The building of Centro Cultural América, located on the side of Plaza 9 de Julio with a row of beautiful urban facades. But I think this building is among the most beautiful and a fine example of eclectic architecture in Salta. This more or less palace-like building was built in 1913 (although it seems a lot older). From 1950 until 1987 it served as Government House, when it became its current use.
We went into the building and were allowed to make some pictures of the interior; even better a friendly employee turned on the lights for better pictures of the interesting stairwell with beautiful stained glass windows and ceiling.
Afterwards the housekeeper gave us a kind of private tour to the first floor. Here is a very nicely decorated hall with windows and a balcony to the main square. He opened one of the window hatches and we had a unique view of the Plaza de 9 de Julio and the cabildo.
All together an unexpected, yet interesting visit.
