Looking at the Cathedral
When I saw it for the first time at 10pm....the cathedral made me think of a giant wedding cake! I could not believe my eyes...so nice was it!!!! Its white and pink colors made of the building the most romantic one of the Plaza 9 de Julio and I let once again my imagination flow....
This magnificent temple was built in 1858, and it replaced the old Cathedral, damaged by a fire. The façade with friezes and cornices is framed in a classic Italian style. It has three naves and it possesses an exuberant ornamentation.
In the temple in the Vault of the Glories of the North - declared National Historical Monument in 1941 -, rest General Martín de Güemes and Antonio de Arenales and Mrs. Martina of Gurruchaga. The Cathedral Basilica was declared National Historical Monument in 1947.
