Parking Torres del Paine

by kmjmmm

If you rent a car to get to and travel around in Torres del Paine and stay in some of the accommodations that you must hike to. Are there places to park?
Are there places to park at Paine Grande?
or other hotels within the park?

sorry, i accidentally confused hosteria las torres with paine grande.

There is absolutely no possibility of parking at Paine Grande. it is only accessible by boat or by foot (or maybe helicopter)

Travel Tips for El Calafate

Panorama from the room

by andal13

The view I could enjoy through my room's window was really beautiful: a lonely road, the countryside, the lake and the mountains... Each evening, after many activities, I came into my hostel room, took a seat in front of the window and enjoyed the spectacular sight.

How to come back

by andal13

If you want to come back to El Calafate (which it is very probable!) you must eat "calafate" (the fruit); you can eat it directly, or calafate icecreams, jams or liquor.
Of course, I drank a cup of calafate liquor!

Walichu Point

by andal13

Walichu (or Gualicho) Point is a point situated 9 Km away from El Calafate, over Lake Argentino. There the landscape is amazing, but also you can find rupestrian paintings. These paintings are 4.000 years oldand were made by the Tehuelche natives; there are some replicas too, made 10 years ago by an artist and an archaeologist.

Glaciers

by iam1wthee

I was satisfied with just seeing the Perito Moreno. There are others around of course but I feel once you see one you have seen them all. Looking at them in a picture is not the same as seeing and hearing it up close.

I went with a tour agency that specialized in small groups and took us in a minivan. We did not go the typical route as the big buses. We went the more scenic route and were able to take pictures that most people do not get. It was thrilling. I saw parts of Chile, a lot of animals, and huge wide open landscapes that were magnificient. I recommend doing it this way because the big buses can not drive down certain roads and they often carry too many people for you to ask to stop the bus.

Redonda Bay

by andal13

El Calafate is situated by Bahía Redonda (Round Bay), a bay of Lake Argentino. In winter, the bay frozes, and becomes a skaiting ring; in November, the water level descends so much that you can walk across the bay; in summer, flocks of migrant birds come to this place to breed.
