A room with a view

Well, yes, a view was promised but there are views and views, and with all the building that's going on in El Calafate these days I don't think it will be long before the Bahia Redonda Hotel will have to forego that claim. The purported view to the lake is across a very wide, flat stretch of land that is already being built on. It's not a big complaint though - there are more than enough stunning views to be had during your days to the great sights around El Calafate to compensate.

This was a curate's egg of an hotel - good in parts - the rooms were spacious and clean but overheated and noisy - the heating fan turned on and off all night and there were no individual controls to turn the heat down. The beds were comfortable, the staff were helpful and we could always get a nice hot cup of tea when we ordered one on our arrival back at the hotel from wherever we had been. However ...our travelling companions had a problem getting hot water - their room was right at the end of the passage and the pressure didn't always deliver. The location is good - just a five minute walk from the town centre

The Bahia Redonda is a 3 star hotel - I'd probably rate it 2 and a half - but it is adequate for a short stay. El Calafate is an expensive little town - the most expensive in Argentina in fact, so value for money isn't necessarily all that easy to find. Compared to hotels elsewhere in Argentina, this one is expensive but that's El Calafate for you.

Would I stay here again? Probably not, but that's because a new Design Suites has opened in El Calafate - a lot more expensive but if it's up to the standard of the Design Suites we stayed in in Bariloche - the budget can go hang!

Unique Quality: Breakfast was pretty ordinary, the packed lunch we ordered for our days out were substantial enough but they were boring, not a bad summation of the whole hotel really but I would have to say we probably got what we paid for both in our lunch box and in the hotel.

My father stayed here and he had a great time. He met one of the owners, so if you want to stay here just write to horacio at puntocalafate@cotecal.com.ar. You can tell him you were referred by Jorge or Sofia Martinez Vivot.
