Hotel La Loma: Very nice hotel with private atmosphere
Just excellent, no TV, no telephone, forget about internet but central rooms with billiardroom and even a internal swimmingpool and nice garden.
Surprising old furnishment and historical pictures
The familiar feeling like home and only 100 meters from the central main street

Estancia Cristina: If you like nature, this the the place to be
I visited Estancia Cristina on 31 December 2005. I didn´t sleep there, but just went there for one day like the majority of the guests do. Estancia Cristina is an old English farm, that was abandoned in 1997 when the last owner died. A few years later, it was openend as a day lodge. Late 2005, it was completely renovated and extended. It is now a resort for people that want to spend a few days away from it all, right in the middle of nature. The full history of the farm is told on their website.
The lunch that I had at Estancia Cristina was fabulous. In fact, it was too fabulous! As it was 31 December 2005, I had booked an all evening dinner to celebrate the new year. I was not very hungy any more after the Estancia Cristina lunch :-(
1. It is so very very beautiful and quiet.
2. The service is of a high standard.
3. Despite its remote location, there are many things to do, like horse riding, hiking, 4x4 driving, sailing or just relaxing. These activities are also in the packages of day guests.

Rancho Grande, Albergue Patagonia and campings: Accommodation in El Chalten
There are two hostels affiliated with HI: one is called Rancho Grande, and the other is Patagonia.
Rancho Grande is the biggest one, composed of four bed bedrooms, with a restaurant, a sort of living room, a kitchen and a laundry (you must pay for the service and there is a stablished time to use it). All buses stop and leave from Rancho grande, so the hostel works as a bus station as well.... there?s nice food at the restaurant, but it?s not cheap... You can bargain the reservations, together with the two way ticket in Chalten travel, a travel agency located in Av del Libertador, in El Calafate.
Albergue patagonia is smaller, close to Rancho grande, but has a friendlier, more confortable atmosphere, as I heard from a friend of mine.
There are camping grounds in town and also along the trek, but like Torres del Paine, you must have the right equipment for wind, etc...
