Hostel del Monte: our hotel in Ushuaia

by globetrott

Hostal del Monte is in a quiet area at the westend of Ushuaia and we got a free pickup-service from the airport.
We were in room #4 with a great view towards the mountains across the Beagle-channel, in the west of Ushuaia and we were able to look into the other direction as well from our bathroom, facing the east of the Beagle-channel, from where we were able to look out for good weather and for the best time to do our early morning photos and videos.
Many of the rooms have 3 single beds and all of the rooms have en-suite-facilities with a bath-tub.

free WLAN-internet in the rooms, you just have to get the password at the reception, that is really a great service. And for special purposes like printing out etc. you can also use the hostal's computer at the reception - thats what you see in my main photo here !

Casa de Famila: An Acceptible B&B in Ushuaia

by AKtravelers

The B&B we stayed in Ushuaia has two names, one apparently legal and one possibly not: Casa de Famila and Los Notros, respectively. I recently got an e-mail from another place in Ushuaia called Los Notros that appears to be much nicer and therefore is not happy about the confusion. Until this is cleared up, be certain you are talking to the Los Notros place that you want. From my experience, it's likely that you want the place I didn't stay at, though I don't know what the price/amentities trade-off is.
Casa de Famila was a somewhat shabby place, with four bedrooms and two shared bathrooms. It was clean but basic. Unfortunately, the people that run it and live there smoke, so the uipper floors are heavy with the scent of cigarettes and the occassional undissipatated cloud. But, on the good side, they were very helpful and earned many points for trying (fruitlessly) to convince us not to take the Train to the End of the Earth. They were also a short walk from a grocery store and the center of town.
"Tourista" the owner said, making a stamping motion toward her forehead.
Even better, the let us store clean clothes, clean shoes and suitcases in their B&B while we went off hiking in the wilderness for four days. That really made the logistics of trip planning easier. They also requested a hiking itinerary for us, in case we didn't return on our appointed night, which showed consideration for our well-being.

They own a cat who watched the Super Bowl with us (in Spanish). They also made sure that they served us tea and cookies every time we walked in the door.
