The last city in the world
by Juanmatias
Mealtime
by kyoub
Most Argentines eat a light breakfast of coffee or tea. A pastery like a croissant or toast and jam.
We were always served Nescafe, never brewed coffee. Glad I took my own.
Lunch is is often the days main meal and it is cheaper than dinner.
Most dine late for dinner, 9pm is early for them.
If you can go early you avoid the crowd and a lot of the smokers.
Alpine Skiing
by galy
Two alpine ski areas, each with one principal and one beginner lift, are located very close to Ushuaia. The CAU offers skiing at the northwest edge of the city on a run named Wolfgang Wallner in honor of one of the founding members of the Club. The other ski area, Glacier El Martial, is located above Wallner in the bottom of a narrow valley, which leads to the Martial glacier. Wallner is clearly the locals' favorite place to ski.
Tierra del Fuego National Park
by Sharrie
Within the national park, which is about 40 mins west of Ushuaia, one can enjoy the wildlife unique to this part of the world.
Magellanic woodpeckers, foxers, dense forests of verdant beech, glaciers & mountains are said to be found here.
Be very careful though...
Claudio actually told me about a couple from Germany who was here a few years ago went hiking on their own but never did returned to their hotel! & they had never been found either. They were lost in this huge national park!
I was told to get an expert guide who's familiar with this terrain should I decide to explore the park.
Great Meat
by galy about La Estancia
Almost accross the street from the previouse restaurant. You can't go wrong in Argentina if you order a steak. For us, steak lover, it was a feast. The vegeterian among us was very setisfied with the pasta, and there was a salad buffet as well,
The setting was a bit nicer and the service a bit more attentive then in the other one.
We went for the ir recomendation of wine. Not expensive, yet very good.
