La Ciudad Blanca (The White City)

by andal13

Sucre is located at Chuquisaca; the original name of the region was "Choquechaca" (golden bridge). The conquerors built there a city in 1540, and called it La Plata (The Silver); subsequently changed the name into Sucre, for Marshall Antonio José de Sucre. This city was Bolivia's capital , but nowadays only stays there the Supreme Court of Justice.
From its foundation till early 20th century Sucre was a rich city; still keeps a lordly atmosphere.
Sucre is an universitary city; there live and study about 40.000 students from all over the world.

The picture shows the ancient statehouse; today is the prefecture.
