help with itinerary

by coconutcrack

Hi there, please could anyone recommend some places to go, where to stay in Bolivia, a stressful few months have meant I am flying to Lima in 2 weeks, with not a scooby doo of what to do or see in Peru or Bolivia, my only knowledge being that for the month I am there it is likely that MP is closed!
Love to visit jungles, homestays etc
Thanks CC

Hi there.
How long will you be staying in Peru & Bolivia. It's difficult to give you tips without knowing how much time you have in each place.
Also, do you want to visit cultural places like ruins etc.. or are more of a nature person: mountain desert, hikes etc...?

I have an 18-day itinerary under my general tips for Bolivia. If there were more time, I would add 3-4 days for the Copacabana - Isla del Sol area back in (they were blocked when I was in Bolivia the first time) and add another day to the riverboat trip. You could also add another day in the Uyuni area and do the northern part of the Salar (Coquesa).

Travel Tips for La Paz

Allowing for Altitude Sickness

by AlbuqRay

Many guided tours of Bolivia have a reasoned first day in La Paz because of the altitude and the possibility of soroche (altitude sickness). The American Airlines flight arrives from Miami very early in the morning. They take you to your hotel and let you rest in the morning. They then do a half day tour that starts with a drive down through Sopocachi, Zona Sur and then to Valle de la Luna. This drive drops maybe 500 meters in 5 km. If they continue on down to Mallasa or the zoo, it is even lower in elevation. This will help you adjust to any problems you are having with soroche and gives you a look at the affluent part of La Paz.

The greatest thing I...

by airjared

The greatest thing I experienced of La Paz was how it was situated in the landscape the the Andes Mts. Be sure to take a BUS there because it is amazing to see how the land changes as you get farther into the mountains. Since La Paz is located in a valley, it is possible to see the entire city when you arrive by bus. There is also another high view point inside the city to see all around and this is an absolute must! My best memory of La Paz is when I was walking around in the city and just looking up towards the crest of the city where it meets the mountains and seeing the large snow capped peaks that are next to the city. Since the city is at such a high elevation, the landscape is barren which makes the mountains look even more astounding.

The bolivian government at the plaza Murillo

by chancay

Bolivia has got a presidential republic sinde 1967 based on a constitution from 1947.
The official language in Bolivia is spanish, there´s also spoken Cetchua and Aimará. 92,5 % are catholic in Bolivia, it´s the official religion.

The line voltage in Bolivia is 220V /50 Hz, in Potosi it´s 110 V, but most hotels got females for both powers.

international telefone number is : 00591

LA CALLE JAEN...

by marcelo15

What you can find on this area is plenty of good museums.
for example, you`ll find four museums, the costumbrista, the golden museum the Murillo`s house and the litoral bolivian. Definitely for me is good to see something about the past of la paz and Bolivia. this street is particularly interesting because it has a lot of memories, it offers to see old houses. such as the house of Pedro Domingo Murillo, who was a hero agains the Spanish conquerors. At the end he was hung at Murillo square.

Shoepolishers

by gonzo747

Don't be afraid if you see people running around with a black mask on. They are not about to rob a bank, they are shoe polishers.
Shoe polishers are seen in La Paz as a very low class, too avoid social stigma the shoe polishers wear masks so they won't be recognised.
