Traveling from La Paz to Corioco

by saralong

Is it easy to hire a car/driver to do the Unga Road dropping us in Corioco? Any suggestions for a place to stay.
Then would like to arrange transportation to Copacabana. How long would this take?

How long is the bus ride then to Puno?? 6 hours??

Thanks!!

It's been a while since I've been in Coroico, and I understand that there is a new, safer road into the Yungas. I will tell you that you do not have to hire a car/driver to travel from La Paz into the Nor Yungas (Coroico is in the Nor Yungas). A bus company, Flota Yunguena drives that route on a regular basis, with departures throughout the morning. Also, lots of hostales and hotels in Coroico, some with a pool.

Bus to Copacabana from La Paz is easy to do. If I remember correctly, the buses depart from the Cementario district of La Paz. Should take you about 4-hours, maybe less. The bus has to cross the Straits of Taquina on a barge, so that takes a bit of time.

From Copacabana, you take a collectivo to the border at Yunguyo. Walk across the border, collecting your salida and entrada stamps, then another collectivo from the Peruvian side of the border to Puno. The entire process shouldn't take you more than 3 - 4 hours.

Buen Viaje,

RED AGAINST BLUE

by Orkaena

Walking randomly around the shore of the Titikaka Lake you'll find this beautiful red flowers invading the air with majestic modesty.
As far as I remember this plants and its exotical gems has a deep meaning for the aboriginal cultures, as aymarás, kollas and kechuas.
The name of this flower is "Kantuta", containing the three colors of the flag they are the national flower of Bolivia.
Thank you a lot Marce!

La Paz is Bolivia's capital...

by witou

La Paz is Bolivia's capital and is a very interesting city. La Paz combines modernity and history. Located at approximately 4000 meter above sea level (13,000 feet), this city has more that 80% indigenous population (the largest percentage among all Latin American cities with more than a million people), and most of the population is bilingual (Aymara - Spanish and /or Quechua - Spanish). La Paz is the ideal hub for your Andean experience. The view of the beautiful Illimani Mountain which can be seen from almost anywhere in La Paz, the peaceful view of the Titikaka Lake surrounded by the ever snowed Andes, and the magic of the Pre-Inca ruins of Tiawanaku.

Colonial architecture

by SirRichard

It is not very common but you can seldom find small houses in brilliant colours with nice balconies and colonial architecture of the 19th century. Some have even been restored, like these ones here in a centrical area of the capital.

La Paz has three very well...

by witou

La Paz has three very well differentiated zones: El Alto (which is actually a different city) is very dangerous and you do not want to be there walking on your own; El Centro is the downtown area (definitely the most interesting) has plenty of museums, art craft shops, baroque churches, and markets; La Zona Sur is the lowest part of the city where the rich live (not much to see there).

A map of the city

by chancay

The inofficial capital of Bolivia was founded 1548 by the spanish conquista. The complete name is: "La Ciudad de Nuestra Senora de La Paz", that means "the city of our Lady of peace". In La Paz / El Alto you find the highest airport in the world at an altitude of 4085 m. The average temperature in La Paz is 11,2 °C (52.1 °F ) or average daytime temperature 18 °C (64.4 °F). Also during raintime you have various hours sun a day.
