flights into

by phillbirt

Hi,

Im looking at getting a cheap flight into Santa Cruz, Bolivia, from Rio.THe plan is then to bus it to La Paz and beyond. Is there a no frills carrier that I could check out? Does anyone have an idea of the cost?

I was actually just at Santa Cruz airport this afternoon and was admiring the airlines that fly in and out of Santa Cruz.

LAB Airlines www.labairlines.com
Aerosur www.aerosur.com
GOL (BR)
TACA www.taca.com
TAM (BR) www.tam.com.br
Aerolineas Argentinas
VARIG (Has financial problems atm)

Getting from Rio to Santa Cruz (or Bolivia in General) will 99% of the time be from Sao Paulo, the only "Budget way" is to get a flight to the frontier (internal flights are always cheaper than internal flights) at Corumba Mato Grosso, then the train from Puerto Quijarro or a flight from Puerto Suarez to Santa Cruz.

Dont know about the costs for the international flights, last time i was looking at the internal flights from Soa Paulo to Corumba they where about $150-200 with TAM and a 1 hour stopover in Campo Grande, its about $100 with AeroSur from Puerto Suarez to SC. You can easily get a cab from the airport to the frontierra for maybe $5 (about 2 minutes) and then a bolivian taxi to Puerto Suarez for about $10-12 (about 30 minutes)

There is a South American pass which might suit you more but I have never looked at this method always prefer .

If you have any questions let me know.

Packing List

The night life is fun here, take nice close to go out, most guys will do just fine with khakis, a nice shirt and shoes (not snikers). During the day something fresh, it is subtropical and it can get pretty hot. If you go to the rain forest, make sure to take boots of track shoes and wear repelent.

Santa Cruz is on the edge of the jungle in Bolivia. It has a very tropical climate. If visiting the city, don't miss the resident sloughs in the central plaza. Unfortunately I didn't have my camera with me when one climbed down out of a tree, walked across in front of me and climbed up another.
