The couple that runs Oliver Tours Agency is really nice : they propose a cheap tour in South Lipez, they include the stay in Atulchi (the salt hostal) without charging extra, and the agency proposes, if you take a tour with them, to lodge you for free in the nice Hostal Marith, in Uyuni (the owner is the sister of the guy), for one night (with breakfast included !!) and, if you're reaaaaally nice, maybe two, before leaving to South Lipez !!!
Le couple qui tient l'agence Olivos Tours est vraiment sympa : ils vendent pas cher le tour dans le Sud Lipez, ils incluent la nuit a Atulchi (un hotel de sel) sans vous demander plus d'argent, et, si vous acceptez, ils incluent dans le package une nuit gratos a l'hostal marith, dans Uyuni (la patronne est la soeur du type de l'agence), pour une nuit (avec petit dej !) et, si vous etes vraaaaaiment sympas, peut-etre 2, avant votre depart pour le Sud Lipez !!

On a eu vraiment un agreable sejour dans cet hotel, fait entierement de sel : la bouffe etait bonne, la douche chaude, et le tout est splendide !!
Not every agency proposes to stop there : Oliver Tours does, without charging extra. From here, you'll visit a small cavern with mummies and may enjoy, if you wake up early, the sunrise over the salt desert of Uyuni (the hotel is really close to the desert).
Toutes les agences ne proposent pas de s'y arreter. Oliver Tours le fait sans vous charger d'extra. Depuis la, on peut visiter une caverne a momies et surtout, on peut, si on se leve tot, apprecie le lever de soleil sur le Salar, vu que l'hotel est juste a cote.

On a du rester longtemps a Rurrenabaque, compte tenu de la paralysation du pays. Environ 7 jours passes dans cet hotel, c'etait le meilleur moyen d'etre bloques tout en appreciant le sejour : les chambres sont propres et plutot spacieuses, dotees de l'inevitable ventilo, il y a un jardin sympa et surtout, une superbe place ronde avec 8 hamacs (indispensable pour glander toute la journee).
Cheap (around 20-25 bolivianos : 3 USD), clean and calm (at the contrary, hotel Tuichi is cheaper but really noisy).

Disappointed by the want of bus to Puno, we had to find a hotel for one night in La Paz (where we will return !!!). This hotel, close to the bus station, is very cheap and run by a sympathetic old man. So, why not recommanding it ?
Decus par l'absence de bus pour Puno, nous avons du trouver un hotel pour une nuit a La Paz (ou nous reviendrons !). Celui-ci, pres du terminal de bus, est vraiment pas cher et son proprio est un vieux bonhomme bien sympatoche. Aussi, pourquoi ne pas le recommander ??

I have mixed feelings about this hotel. The room was spacious with a spectacular view. The dining room and food were excellent (Desayuno = 15 Bs, Almuerzo = 17.50 Bs and Cena 21.50 Bs). All are served buffet style and desayuno comes with the room. The gardens are lovely. There is a nice pool and sauna. There are games and a playground for kids. However, three things keep me from recommending this hotel. First, the toilet seat was filthy when I arrived. Secondly, the owner's young daughter came into my room using a pass key without knocking, supposedly to turn on the porch light. Thirdly, we were watching TV in the lobby when one of the staff came in with another guest and changed the channel, without asking us, in order to watch a movie (BTW, the other guest apologized himself). The view from your room and the dining room are unsurpassed. I understand the climate is like Spring year-round. If you want to just relax, this is a great place to do it. I was on a tour but the regular rates for a deluxe room were $13-17. The four star Hotel Independencia did not look like much from the outside but the rooms surround two beautiful courtyards on the inside. It has an excellent location just half a block off the main plaza in Sucre. The room was very comfortable and the bathroom first rate. The staff were friendly and very helpful. Breakfast is included.

This is a small friendly hotel in a good location about 3 blocks from the Witches Market. Some rooms surround a nice courtyard. The larger rooms are on the front but they are more noisy since they are above the street. The best room is the matrimonial suite on the courtyard (Room 119) with a queen-sized bed and larger bathroom. The rooms are clean, have hot water 24/7, and come with an electric space heater. Free internet access and hot water and teas are available in the AYNI Room. Breakfast and free luggage storage are included in the rate. Ricardo and Aldofo at the front desk will help make your stay a good one. The Fair Trade shop has some nice things for a good cause but the prices are better elsewhere.
Their AYNI room is unique. AYNI in the Aymara culture means a reciprocal relationship where two different people help each other mutually because each one is lacking what the other has. In an AYNI, a service is offered knowing that in the future this help will be returned in kind. You will find all sorts of information in the ANYI room. It is also a gathering place for guests to chat, enjoy the free teas, and use the free internet service.
The hotel restaurant, Tambo Colonial is quite good. Don't miss the dessert, Crepe Rosario (10 Bs.); it is "muy rico!"

I found no heating in all the mid or low price hotels I've been in bolivia. If this is rather normal in low bolivia, it's a bit unconfortable where temperatures at night goes as low as -20°C. It's easy to survive, of course, but exiting a cold shower in a freezing air can be the perfect flou generator. Having a sleeping bag can turn in a great chance to sleep warm in some place and it's mandatory in the lagunas tour (most agencies have some for rent).
almost all the showers I met used a weird, pretty dangerous elecric thing for water heating called salvietti or something like that.
This kind of tourist burner is applied just on the exit of the pipe and try to heat water while it passes. The first one I met, in oruro, was generating really hot water and I was wandery how it could have been possible considering the small size of the salvietti but in the other hotel I went in the altiplano, the water was, at its best, not that cold... far from the possibility to define it slighty warm
mid-low budget hotel are usually run by helpful (special mention to hotel bibosi, santacruz) and friendly (prize goes to villa tunari) staff while a medium budget brings you to a more bureocratic ambience with no sensible improving on showers and other amenities.
