VERY GOOD BUT NOT 4STAR GOOD
My partner and I stayed at the Superclub Breezes and returned on the 2nd June 06.
The hotel is very good but due to one or two minuses is not quite 4star.
A purpose built mini town with around five hotels, a small commercial centre with bars and shops with live entertainment (this part is not in all inclusive obviously) a golf course (expensive) riding centre, water centre, tennis complex. Free buses ferry you around the area from your hotel and its very safe. It also has its own mini forest with monkeys and such like.
A large clean building with plenty of facilities, two outside bars and two inside plus the disco and small reception area bar. I notice that other reviewers said their rooms were not clean. Ours was kept spotless by the room maid, clean sheets and linen every day, floor swept and cleaned. The bathroom was also kept very clean with clean towels as often as required. The rooms had two double beds, a sofa, table and chairs, large TV, iron and board, free safe and mini bar. What much more can you need?
The pool area is very good with plenty of sunbeds although we did amuse ourselves watching one or two turf wars regarding favourite spots. If you want sun all day then grab a bed at the grill bar end of the pool.
Excellent. There is plenty of choice all the time and if you like meat you are in for a treat. I had some of the best steaks in years and there are plenty of other options as well. As for the deserts........Willy Wonka coundn't match the chocolate varieties on offer.
Some are excellent, some are new and learning, some are hopeless and have mastered the art of not making eye contact and looking busy without actually doing anything. The restaraunt staff are generally poor but if you ask they will oblige. Management were activley putting a rocket up one or two backsides whilst we were there. Look out for MARCIO in the swim up bar, SALES in JImmys Bar and SILVINHO the pool waiter, they are about the best.
No a lot of them dont speak English but then they are Brizilians and their native tongue is Portugese. Make an effort people and you will get along just fine.
Like the staff, some ar excellent and some are hopeless. The old saying "You can please some of the people some of the time.....etc etc is perfectly true. Those who accepted the communication difficulties and had a bash at rudimentary portugese got on just fine whilst those who should have stayed in Cleethorpes or Southend just moaned. Why people travel all that way and expect a poorly educated South American to speak perfect English is beyond me.
GO........YOU'LL LIKE IT
We flew out on 2nd June 4 well travelled adults mid 50s to early 60s no kids involed so no personal experience of kids clubs.
Lets start at the beguining
It looks lovely the staff are very helpfull they were little badges on thier name tags that let you know what languages the speak the (George Cross for English) its very clean but chairs are very uncomfortable.
Larger than some very clean and comfortable bathrooms could do with and upgrade no sink plug, bath plug screws down, wash line over bath but didnt hear of 1 that locked in place but still useable (take a few pegs),
Munasan Japanese Resaurant.
Air conditioned clean if you get on a table for 8 they cook the food in front of you we shared with 2 other couples and enjoyed both meal and company, Good service
Pastaffari Italian Restaurant.
Air conditioned clean nice meal TERRIBLE coffee we ordred cappuccino it was made from powdered mix and had lumps floating on the top that just would not dissolve no matter how much we stirred. Service was good
Market Place Resaurant.
Again air conditioned and clean. The 4 of us went we ordered 3 different starters the soups were just tepid not hot.
3 different main courses the rice on all was in mould shape and COLD even in middle the Fish to say it was warm is being generouse but it wasnt stone cold the Duck and Chicken could not have been colder just from the fridge.
We did not bother with desert we walked out and complained it was not busy there was us 4, 3 at another table and another 4 came in after we had been served our starters. Service was terrible we waited 20 minites between starter plates being cleared and main course being served.
Cats round your legs
Birds flying through and perching where they will doing what comes naturally to birds when and where they will be it on chairs, Make sure you look before you sit I have had an expensive dress ruined as I did not look I sat on some and its bleached a patch.
AND on the food I went for a bread roll one morning and there was bird droppings on them so please don't let kids go for their own try to get things that are under the mezzanine overhang not the other side as the birds perch on the rails.
Nothing was really hot unless you were lucky enough to be there as they re-filled things,
but good selection.
Themed nights on weekly rota but didn't notice very much difference.
Very poor selection of vegetables other than salads
If you get 1 drink of water and 1 wine or beer thats about it unless you do as I did and make a point of going for our own if you just sit and wait they take no notice go to the water cooler once especially if there is a supervisor about you wont need to again they remember you.
Tropical Grill Bar
Open air but very few birds no cats, clean, Good food they tend to do steaks rare but if you like them well done just tell them to put it back on grill for you they will.
Very poor we have yet to decide if the evening entertainment as for adults or kids or just for thier own amusment.
A monster show that nursery children could have done better
The usual Adam & Eve thing
A Circus show that was basically just acrobatics ( that could have been partly down to the RAIN we could not go out to the Trapeze either week)
and the Bahian show all done buy the IN HOUSE team no Profesional shows.
It was lovely to the left but rocky to the right. Loads of beach sellers but they dont hassle you if you look they will come over but just a no thanks or a shake of the head and they move on but if you batter you can get some bargains.(most of them speack better English then the waiters)
Sea VERY rough
Freezing while we were there but then it rained a lot too and they cant be blamed for the weather.
The one in the the hotel is expensive and limited in stock the Village Praia Nova is a few minites walk or you can get the shuttle bus its pretty a good selection of shops but not cheap, or Praia do Forte get the bus R30 return per person or a taxi R60 each way dont get them to wait they will try to get you to agree but loads of taxis at top of village,
Loads of shops and little stalls and a lot cheaper.
Bank / Change
Its hard to change travellers checks only 2 places
No facilities in hotel
Bank in Praia Nova open 10am - 3pm $20 per transaction no matter how much but good rate and no other charges
Tourist Information in Praia do Forte VERY poor rate
Its easier to change notes
WIll we go back NEVER not even if they gave it to us
4 of us went 2 ended up at the clinic with stomach trouble we did the flight home on sips of cold water no food the other 2 were not as bad but not good. spoke to several other with stomach trouble
Any quetions just ask I will try my best to answer them,
I do have a price list for First Choice Trips if anyone wants any info on them.
This review is about Superclubs but also the 5 day First Choice tour of Rio and Iguasso Falls as we found little info on this before we went.
We found the hotel to be great! It's set within quite a large resort with golf course, equestrian centre and nautical centre. The hotel rooms were large, cleaned daily and had a free mini-bar with soft drinks. Each day you could complete a request for the following days selection of soft drinks and it was re-stocked to your choice. The buffet restaurant (Jimmy's) was fine and we found the variety and quality of food to be good. As always with all inclusive, I think it becomes a bit boring at the buffet because you tend to have your breakfast in the same restaurant every day as well. We decided to eat at the local village on a couple of nights and found the food and service to be excellent and the prices more than reasonable. A beer costs less than £1 and a meal for two with wine is around £25. We tried the Italian and Japanese restaurants and these were excellent.
We didn't tend to bother much with the entertainment on offer but found the piano bar to be quite a chilled place. We also drank at the village on occasions to get out a bit. Would recommend eating or drinking at the village on a Saturday night as it was quite busy with a good atmosphere as a lot of Brazilians just stay for the weekend.
The pool areas were great and the pool grill was fantastic. Most meats on offer on the BBQ and plenty of salad dishes. We stayed whilst the world cup was on and a marquee was set up to watch the matches. On days when England played they laid on English food - fish and chips and roast beef sandwiches! When Brazil played they hired a band from Salvador who came and created as much noise as possible!!!
The weather was quite good whilst we were there with only 2 days that were miserable. When it was sunny it was really hot! The hotel did have small monkeys wandering around the gardens plus large Iguana like lizards but these behaved themselves.
Golf - cost £40 to play which isn't bad seeing that it is a championship course in very good condition. Cost quite a lot to buy golf balls, tees and glove so best take these with you beforehand (and clubs if possible).
Rio and Iguasso Tour (5 days)
I can't believe that people visit Brazil without visiting Rio. It was amazing! We flew into Salvador and stayed the first night in the Holiday Inn. Most people ate in the hotel that night due to fatigue and then on to Rio the next day. Stayed at Vilamar hotel just off Copacabana beach. Didn't experience any problems in Rio despite the warnings before hand. I think the key here is not to wear anything expensive and you'll be fine. Less hassle from street vendors than in most places I have been. When you say 'no' they leave you alone. The restaurants along the front were inexpensive and we even had a cocktail at the Copacabana Palace hotel!
On day 3 we had an escorted trip to Sugarloaf mountain. We decided to pay $100 extra and have a helicopter ride from Sugarloaf around Christ the Redeemer and the beaches. This was unbelievable and the highlight of the holiday. In the afternoon the tour took us around Ipanema beach and then on to Christ the Redeemer statue. The views were spectacular and should not be missed.
Day 4 was an early start and off to Iguasso Falls. Got there at about 2pm and straight onto a tour. Saw the waterfalls from the Brazilian side and then back to the hotel (Continental). Next day we paid for an additional trip to see the falls from the Argentinian side. Views from both countries are worth seeing.
Day 5 saw us flying back to Salvador. This meant 3 different connecting flights but we still got to Superclubs by 2pm.
If anyone wants anymore info on the hotel or tour just email me on firstname.lastname@example.org
hotel excellent the trip to rio is a must it was worth every penny we paid seven hundred and fifty pound for two of us and it was money worth spent, the first choice rep J B was brilliant nothing was to much for him. we also meet some people from Newcastle who madeour holiday def keep in touch with them and also a couple from Mosley who made our holiday. All i can i say is that brazil is a place worth seeing and the best place iv ever been
