a week in the beach
if you want to party it's better stay in Porto Seguro or Arraial da Ajuda instead of Trancoso; I've spent a week in a hotel near Porto Seguro named Baia Cabralia, see my Porto Seguro page
Avenida Beira Mar s/n, Praia de Curuipe, Porto Seguro, State of Bahia, 45810 -000, Brazil
This hotel has it's own Barraca de Praia at the beach. You may enjoy the beach with all hotel facilities. It's a very "open" hotel, where you "feel the space", with confortable rooms, with no Axe bar around ( to much noise at night), near the town, but far enough.

Hotel in the city of Cabralia, near Porto Seguro in front of the sea. They have a private bus from Rio every friday to the hotel, excursions to the beaches and free bus to the center every night. The package includes dinner, breakfast ,a city tour and a show by night. It is an excellent package for what they offer.
Porto Seguro - Posada Portugal
I paid R$10/night in march 2001 Very clean and spacious rooms with A/C, TV, pritave bath. Very comfortable. Great breakfast included. Location is quite good, several blocks back from teh shore front. There are more central posadas, but it's only a 5-10min. walk to any attractions in the centre of Porto Seguro from here.
The rooms are very clean, with airco and television. I only payed 20 reals per day, and I thought this was very cheap for the time of year. Breakfast was included in the price. You have a swimmingpool, and a little terrass.
FROM THE MANY ACCOMODATIONS IN TOWN I WOULD RECOMMEND YOU FROM CHEAPER SIDE THE FRIENDLY POUSADA MARE ALTA WITH A GREAT HOST AT AV. GETULIO VARGAS, 361

Considered as the first establishments on Brazilian lands, Porto Seguro is one of the most popular spots on the beautiful northeastern coast. Discovered in 1500 by the Portuguese navigator Pedro Alvares Cabral, this area 720 kilometres from Salvador, attracts foreigners with its innumerable, almost deserted beaches and exciting sights.
The city is divided into two sectors. The Lower City, on the shores of the river Buranhem, comprises a large number of restaurants, bars, posadas and travel agents. In this place, the Passarela do Alcool stands out- a small road by the coast where there is a lively and entertaining nightlife. Live music, folk groups, handicraft stores, local food and drinks together with the lambada and bay rhythms can be enjoyed here every night.
The important historic centre of Porto Seguro extends over the Upper City. In this sector there are many 16th century colonial constructions. One of the most significant is the Marco da Posse da Terra, a small stone column that symbolises the Portuguese arrival to the continent. The churches of Nossa Senhora da Penha, da Misericordia and Nosso Senhor dos Passos are some of the oldest churches in the country.

But without a doubt, over the past few years, it is the beaches which have transformed Porto Seguro into the second most important tourist destination in Bahia. There are kilometres of white sandy beaches that extend towards the north of the city, surrounded by amazing barriers of coralreefs. The beaches of Curuipe, Itacimirim, Mundai, Taperapua, Rio dos Mangues, Ponta Grande and Mutai are ideal places for enjoying almost deserted stretches with forests of palm trees that reach out to the sea.
Natural pools, sands full of seashells, walks along the beach, small streams and kiosks serving local food and drink are attractions of this unique setting.
