Salador da Bahia, former capital of Brazil, and the baroque jewel of the nord-este is truly something to behold. The heart and soul of Salvador is Pelurinho, in Cidade Alta (upper city), a veritable treasure-trove of pastel hued colonial buildings and baroque churches. It's not for nothing that UNESCO has named Pelo a world heritage site.
