Marvellous Kitchen in a Tropic Environment

The Hotel Lagoa e Mar was recommended by friends and we stayed there in March 2008 for 7 nights. So far the best hotel we had on our one month trip in Bahia. Staff is very friendly and helpful. The owner gave us a lot of useful tips where to go and what to do.

Bungalows are spacious and cleaned daily, linen and towels were changed every two days. We never had in Bahia such a comfortable mattress in such a large bed. Relaxing in the hammock with a delicious caipirinha you forget the rest of the world.

Beach is in a 3 minutes walking distance from the hotel. We enjoyed miles long wanderings on the beach, some parts are nearly deserted. Low tide is a good time for snorkelling and high tide for wave surfing. But we stayed most time at the pool soaking up the sun.

Every night we rejoiced dinner. All dishes were superb and abundant. Try the different types of Bahian moqueca (a sort of fish soap). I gained more than two pounds.

The English speaking owner recommended two trips to the sea turtle stations (north coast) and to Cachoeira/Sao Felix in Reconcavo area. Don't miss it. Marvellous.

The hotel has a 24/7 security staff, what's not normal in small hotels in Bahia. We felt safe there.

If you look for a relaxed atmosphere in a safe place and like good dinner, we highly recommend this hotel.
We'll come back next year.

Unique Quality: Salvador's historic town centre is available by public bus. A little time-consuming to go there (about one hour and a half). But as we stayed before two nights on Pelourinho, we didn't miss it.

A: "Book into a motel, there are plenty around Itapuã which would be handy for your flight. They do bookings by the hour."
