Hospederia Da La Habana: The Coziest Place in Bahia

We came across this cute little pousada by mistake! We initially had plans to rent an apartment from this French guy who decided to retire in Bahia....Bad idea! He picked us up from the airport and he smelled like cigarettes and body odor..That should've been a sign!
The place was filthy and smelled just like him so we passed!

As we looked out the window of his smelly apartment we found this cute yellow pousada! All of the staff was super friendly and extremely helpful. It's clean, there's breakfast, and a small restaurant/bar on site! It was great! They took great care of us..Above and beyond providing a service! We still keep in touch to this day!

**We found out a few days into the stay that this is a "Gay Friendly" pousada! No worries...everyone here isn't gay.

This place has a great central location. It's not right in Pelourinho where a lot of action goes on, but it's extremely close...and it's right on the water and for the ladies....close to Barra Shopping Mall!

Pousada Azul: Porto da Barra's sweet Blue getaway

For those staying in brasil for long term at a time such as I apartment rentals are the way to go. But when taking a week or a weekend,...i had the pleasure of finding this. A beautiful, comfortable spot right near the beach and away from the crowd. Its safe, clean, and breakfast is super. The staff couldnt be any nicer, and the location has WIFI!!!!

Single female travelers, couples, mature crowd, this is the place for you. It's a little more than other pousadas you may find but its worth the comfort and treat even if just for a few days. You deserve it!!! They have hot water too.

"The Lonely Planet Guide Book"
...Pousada Azul is a friendly, comfortable, highly recommended Pousada...

Located 100 meters from Porto da Barra, a local touristic attraction, Pousada azul offers single and double rooms in a clean and confortable atmosphere, access free to internet, Laundromat, airport shuttles, car rental, city tours, fax services, bar and snack services.

Everaldo's place in Stella Maris: Cozy Flat w hammock swing you into vacation mode

Not once, not twice but thrice!!! Fantastic, relaxing, friendly, covenient. Start your tan and surf the minute you arrive from the airport. Arrange a few days in Stella Maris, Salvador. Its is a getaway for middleclass locals. One of the series of prestine beaches along the Costa Verde, Praia Stella Maris. 20 mins from the airport. Dont expect any hotel buildings anywhere, just tiny beachfronts condos, pousadas, and dirt roads leading to a mosaic village on the beach. And Everaldo's Place!!!

Clean, safe, convenient, cozy, parking, playground, security24/7, bus stop up the road, yard w. hammock, tv and computer internet ready. Great price for beach area. Full kitchen. Owner and son speak english, great family to do business with. The owner can arrange pick up car service for you with his son.

1 bedroom apartment which can sleep 4. Full bed in bedroom, a Full sofabed in the living room and a twin sofabed.
It can sleep more, but you'll have to fight for the bathroom, there's only one.

Fully equipt kitchen. Get your vacation lazy-butt up to the two nearby groceries stores down the entrance road.
If not walk 10 mins to the 24 hour AM/PM (gas station, deli). ok youre on vacation, relax no cooking. Try one of the two corner local restaurant and get your grease on, with typical Bahiano dishes and refreshing fruit drinks they are amazing. Or get wasted on cervejas (beer) or cachaca, (sugarcane liquor that will seriously burn) remember what you just ate.

Walk back lay in your own hammock and watch a shooting star, read a book or listen to the local radio station.
or walk over to the playground. I spy all the numerous nature creatures that visit the pond.

***If you have trouble finding them, shoot me an email, more than happy to help.

expect a required security deposit, which you will get back in full cash hence your check out.
check out/in anytime, just remind them. Brazilian are either working or dancing.

Energy is seperate, he will show you the meter and jot down the reading in your presence, checkout you will both read the meter and calculate how much you owe. Computer security deposit too.

Think of it as a savings account so when you leave you have spending money, or enough to cover your broke self back home.

Daniel Blumenthal's place: Rooms with a View

If you are looking for a little lux city flat, w. security, an attentive owner who knows Bahia, a decent price, within Pelourihno, Historic Center, a spectacular breathtaking view of the Bay of all Saints, with WIFI, Daniel Blumenthal is your man!!! (If you weren't looking, you're somewhat curious now eh?)

Need a quite area, you fear crowds, or just have fear in general, sorry Pelourihno altogether is not the place for you. Definately do a day trip though but i dont advise staying in it then Its alive with all sort of activities, musical or religious performances, capoeira in the streets, breakdancers, poets, vendors of every darn thing you don't really need, bells tolling from what may be over 50 churches within the perimeter. Music shops, Candomble shops, Food stands, Bus loads of tourist, Work crowd, homeless folks, Ladies and men of the night looking to love you long time, singers, artist, restaurants, police activities, wild traffic, all day and night, amongst other things.

If you are willing to have an open mind, admire the historic beauty, the music, the culture, and the people that continue to make it so magical...
Make this a must!!!

Daniel has several apartments so it depends which you stay in. I had the honor of staying in his Edificio Themis one bedroom while it was still being purchased. Talk about customer service. Its in Praca de se Within the neart of Centro Historico. It has the view of Bahia do Todos os Santos (Bay of all Saints) in the Cidades Baixa (Lower City). Truly mezmerizing. The Buildling is situated near the Elevador Lacerdo you can actually see it from your bedroom or living room. The apartment has huge wide windows, from one end to the other. Great closet space, a safety box as well. Its has a comfortable bedroom and queen size bed. nightstands with lamps for evening reading on wherer to go the following day. The living room and bedroom both have AC and a small fan. Tall curtains shut out the light and allow you to sleep in when needed.

Livingroom comforts of tv, stereo, plush leather couch, dining table and sitting, along with a kitchennete area with stools for quick snacks. Watercooler was installed and was greatly appreciated. The Kitchen has all modern stove, fridge, sink, and shelvings carefully selected by the owner. The Bathroom is new as well, all tiles and glass. Hot running water and A Turbo's massive, that stuff can wash your hair right off your head. Oh the floors can get slippery, walk dont run.
Let Daniel Know Julissa says ALO!!!
email Daniel to reserve a apartment. He's got flats1 , 2, and 3 bedrroms in various locations, browse his site.

The only thing I could really do without were those bell tolling...

Nega Maluca Guesthouse: Salvador's New Family

It's one of the quietest places I've ever stayed in - a feat because it is close to Pelourinho. The place is run by a young couple who have traveled all over the world. Inbal says nobody is a guest - everyone's family here. The owners looked out for me when they couldn't find me and thought that something had happened to me - they really do care.

Close to Pelo but not too close to bother you with the noise and hustlers. Smack dab in the middle of old Santo Antonio district - close to a bus terminal. Great view - depending on where you stand on the verandah!

pousada das Laronjieras: neat delight

This is a very accomodating place with basic and clean facilities which were well attended by the locals and not the general backpack brigade perhaps because the prices for better accom. is still cheaper than their world.
However snobery aside this was a gem of a place and they really looked after their guests despite my hampered monolingual brain.

,This was basic but in a fun part of town with little cafes and bars nearby.welloff the tourist trails.Perhaps that is why i enjoyed it so much.

costa de Marfim Guesthouse: gem like etheral quality

This city is quite the cultural capital and i was very impressed by the atmosphere within this place. It just worked beautifully. The people it attracted were the kind of people from a Ms. Marple book and i really enjoyed my time here .Aside from the location and amenities {which were super} the type of people were just the ones you want to meet while on holiday and they invited you into their trips and concerts.
Thanks ,wonderful

The people .

Pousada paraiso Tropical: pousadas and small hotels

This pousada is situated in the region of pedra do sal near itapuĆ£. i live in this area and I recomend it because you can still visit the center of salvador but you have wonderful beaches right in front of the hotel. There are other hotels in this area. Paraiso tropical is very sofisticated, there are however other simpler posadas as well as 5 star hotels in this area.

Paraiso Tropical is a small sofisticated hotel that has a wonderful fiew of the beach and has a good pool. The owner and his staff mostly speak other languages. The food is very good and specialized in Italian dishes.

Hotel Villa Bahia: Nice boutique hotel in historic center

I found this hotel while I was looking for something close to the center. Well, I think I did just that. It is not only in the center, but in the center of the center. It is immediately by the Cross of Sao Francisco in downtown Pelourinho (historic center).

But it is not someplace that the average traveler can stay. I thankfully was on the company budget, so could afford the luxury. If I was on my own personal budget, I probably would have stayed at any of the nearby hostels.

The rooms were large and very comfortable. The beds allowed for great sleep. The climate control was very new and functional. There was absolutely no noise, and if the shutters were closed, no light either.

The staff was also extremely helpful, polite and generally courteous.

The rooms are given names, not room numbers. The old fashioned locks give an immediately feel of nostalgia.

The breakfasts were really good (served 7~10am), with one of the best fruit plates I've had in Brazil. I even had to leave a couple times before breakfast and they happily made me a to-go bag.

WiFi is free with the use of a password.

There is a lounge, bar, restaurant and cafe too. There are indoor and outdoor seats available depending on the weather. I didn't eat anything other than breakfast so cannot speak for their menu.

Nega Maluca: Really good hostel

There's free internet.

Best breakfast (bread, cheese, meat, pancakes/french toast, cookies, fresh fruit, juice) and free coffee all day.

It's just outside of Pelhourino, in Santo Antonio about a 5-10min walk.

Helpful staff that will tell you where to go, what to see.

I wouldn't use the laundry service there. It's $R 6 to wash, $R2 to dry (indoors) and you have to take your clothes off the line yourself and fold them...most laundry services do that for you. I gave mine in the morning and in the evneing it was still towel was dripping wet...this in hot sun of Salvador!! They hung them inside!

I also wouldn't use the cab service the provide, it's the owner's friend and it cost $R45 to go to the airport but I'm sure you can get it cheaper by getting oneyourself...on top of that the cabbie has no change and talks ALOT.

It's $R25/night for a 8 bed dorm
