Joao Pessoa

by realde14

Joao Pessoa is the capital of the Northeastern state of Paraiba and the third-oldest city of Brazil. The centro historico has same beautiful old architecture like the Convento Carmo and the Cathedral. Most people, however, would visit Joap Pessoa because of its excellent beaches.

Contrary to other Northeastern cities in Brazil, Joao Pessoa despite being a state capital, remains relatively quiet. Unfortunately, this is sure to change when tourists will discover Paraiba's endless beaches and the hospitality and friendliness of its people

Moving to Salvador

by expat2007

Hello fellow members,
I'm arriving in Salvador for the first time this Thursday, the 26th, and plan to look for a flat in or near Barra. I would be gratefull for any advice you could give me regarding looking for flats, recommended hostels in Barra to stay in while I look for a flat, etc. And if you're available to meet me for coffee to tell me about the area and where I should and should not venture, that would be very helpfull too. Thank you for your time. See you in Salvador.
Chau,
Ben

The most complete site for Salvador is:
www.bahia-online.net
There is some info there regarding an American real estate agent who is accredited and lives in Salvador. The site also talks about various bairros (neighborhoods).

The local newspaper A Tarde also has a lot of ads (classificados)for apartment (apartamento or apto) rentals (aluga). You can select by neighborhood. Mobiliada = furnished. Temporada = short-term.

Get a good guidebook too, like Lonely Planet, to get started finding out about the city.
