Albergue das Laranjeiras
This youth hostel is located in the Pelourinho, the colonial old town of Salvador. The main square is only a short walk away. It is a very nice building, they have private double rooms and dorms. The hostel has friendly and helpfull staff.

Pros :
- Great loft with hammock and TV to relax
- Breakfast included
- Lockers available
- Beds are fixed on the wall, some very high up and close to the ceiling, if you want to retreat.
Cons :
- Right next to an Oludum School, hence, constant drummings in the day-time
- Right above bars and night-spots, hence, loud, partying music in the night-time

Good Hostel to meet other travellers
I stayed in a dorm of 16 beds. The price for one night was 20 reals (if you have a Hostelling International Card). Breakfast was included. If you want to meet a lot of other travellers, this is the place you have to go to.

Nice Hostel and B&B
We did not stay there but checked out the facility. Location is central and there is a small restaurant.
You can have shared Hostel facilities or B&B with private bath. It could be a bit noisy but no problem if you are young and stay up late! the staff was very helpful.
Unique Quality: /?and B&B in center of Historic Pelourinho
Seemed to be booked and very busy during the Jan/Feb high season. Would recommend booking ahead.

Best in Pelourinho
I wasn't there sleeping but it seemed more comfortable and in a quieter possition than any other in town. it is on top of Pelourinho but not in the Middle of the noisy streets, so its easy to sleep specially on weekends and Tuesdays. If I would be back in Salvador, I defenetly would come here.
Unique Quality: Its recently remodelated, seemed very clean and pleasent also the staff was friendly. you don't have to go uphill or downhill so is easy reaching.

Situated in Pelourinho, Salvador's historic district, Albergue das Laranjeiras' location is excellent. Besides its architectural ensemble, nowadays Pelourinho is a great leisure and culture center. With its cafes, bars, theaters, dance halls and art galleries, Pelô is a festival full of Bahian spirit, especially when Olodum band performs. The guests can reach all this on foot, and enjoy it anytime, day or night, with complete peace of mind. The hostel is also an excellent option for beachgoers. Near the hostel, at Praça da Sé, you can take a bus to any beach in Salvador or on the north coast. In the opposite direction, if you take the Plano Inclinado (Inclined Plane tram) or Lacerda Elevator, you can easily travel by boat to the beaches of Itaparica Island and Morro de São Paulo.
At Praça da Sé you can also take the more comfortable "executivo" buses to the airport and to the Bus Station.
The hostel offers dormitory-style rooms with lockers. Albergue das Laranjeiras also offers three private rooms with double beds, and extra beds can be arranged when necessary.

Passo Youth Hostel is located as well in Pelourinho, the historical part of the city.
The breakfast room has cable TV and record system, kitchen, safe and laundry are availables. They organise transfer -service and rent a car or motocicle. They also offer books exchange.
The hostel is very popular for backpackers and it offers you dormitories and double- rooms or apartments (room with private bathroom).
