SALVADOR

Good (3.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on September 9, 2004

Pros :
- Great loft with hammock and TV to relax
- Breakfast included
- Lockers available
- Beds are fixed on the wall, some very high up and close to the ceiling, if you want to retreat.

Cons :
- Right next to an Oludum School, hence, constant drummings in the day-time
- Right above bars and night-spots, hence, loud, partying music in the night-time

Dorms : R$19 (2002)

Good (3.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on September 6, 2004

I stayed in a dorm of 16 beds. The price for one night was 20 reals (if you have a Hostelling International Card). Breakfast was included. If you want to meet a lot of other travellers, this is the place you have to go to.

Directions: The YH is right in the middle of pelhorinho district.

Nice Hostel and B&B

by written on July 9, 2004

We did not stay there but checked out the facility. Location is central and there is a small restaurant.
You can have shared Hostel facilities or B&B with private bath. It could be a bit noisy but no problem if you are young and stay up late! the staff was very helpful.

Unique Quality: /?and B&B in center of Historic Pelourinho
Seemed to be booked and very busy during the Jan/Feb high season. Would recommend booking ahead.

They have a nice website with loads of information and nice pictures.
I have listed their website below.

Directions: near the Tourist Office

Best in Pelourinho

by written on October 15, 2003

I wasn't there sleeping but it seemed more comfortable and in a quieter possition than any other in town. it is on top of Pelourinho but not in the Middle of the noisy streets, so its easy to sleep specially on weekends and Tuesdays. If I would be back in Salvador, I defenetly would come here.

Unique Quality: Its recently remodelated, seemed very clean and pleasent also the staff was friendly. you don't have to go uphill or downhill so is easy reaching.

Directions: Pelourinho

Here are two youth hostels in Pelourinho for budget-travellers:

ALBERGUE DAS LARANJEIRAS
Rua Inácio Acciolli, 13 -Pelourinho
CEP 40025-100 Salvador-BA
Tel/Fax: (071)321-1366.

Situated in Pelourinho, Salvador's historic district, Albergue das Laranjeiras' location is excellent. Besides its architectural ensemble, nowadays Pelourinho is a great leisure and culture center. With its cafes, bars, theaters, dance halls and art galleries, Pelô is a festival full of Bahian spirit, especially when Olodum band performs. The guests can reach all this on foot, and enjoy it anytime, day or night, with complete peace of mind. The hostel is also an excellent option for beachgoers. Near the hostel, at Praça da Sé, you can take a bus to any beach in Salvador or on the north coast. In the opposite direction, if you take the Plano Inclinado (Inclined Plane tram) or Lacerda Elevator, you can easily travel by boat to the beaches of Itaparica Island and Morro de São Paulo.
At Praça da Sé you can also take the more comfortable "executivo" buses to the airport and to the Bus Station.

The hostel offers dormitory-style rooms with lockers. Albergue das Laranjeiras also offers three private rooms with double beds, and extra beds can be arranged when necessary.

Actual prices (including breakfast) please see at the webpage from the hostel, under "Prices".

Albergue das Laranjeiras

by written on September 24, 2002

About 16 reals, if you're a a Hostelling associated. Their homepage is very helpful.

Unique Quality: Of course that I never stayed there, but everyone who does simply loves the place. I myself often go to have a cup of coffee in their delicious cafe-hall and listen to good music and sometimes meet nice people. The place is very well decorated, the people are very gentle and they have music hall, internet access...
