Beautiful Boutique B&B

I did not stay at the hotel, but my good friends did and I visited them there, hung out in the rooms, at the pool, and at the little bar area. Plus had a great opportunity to meet the staff and hang out with them.

This hotel is a beautiful little gem in the Carmo area near the Forte do Capoeira. It is a beautiful restoration of an historical house. The decor is beautiful, minimal, and lush at the same time. The owners and staff a very accommodating, friendly, personable. They offered to take my friends to the Saida de Ile Aiye (but when we showed up no more room in the car) Additionally they offered to walk our friends to the pharmacy and a few other places, just in case they were worried about hassles on the walk. I personally felt very safe in the area!

A wonderful, comfortable, friendly place to stay in a great historic area of Salvador's historic center. Just 10 minute stroll to center of the Pelo, but very quite and nice.

Unique Quality: The crowing glory of this place is the small rooftop infinity pool which overloops the cidade baixa. It is truly amazingly nice to sit up on the deck or lounge in the pool on a hot salvador evening and watch the sunset over Itaparica. Lovely!

Good luck. There is a big list of accomodations on www.bahia-online.net, but I suspect, as you already know, that most are full for Carnaval. Also look on the local newspaper website www.atarde.com.br for temporary apartment rentals.
These people have posted vacancies of various sorts recently on some other forums:

I don't know your budget but this is a good place near (one and one-half blocks) Pelourinho in a safe neighborhood.

Travel Tips for Salvador da Bahia

Elevador Lacerda

by msp_ssa

Here's Elevador Lacerda. It gets you between Cidade Alta and Cidade Baixa. It was only 5 cents when I was there, it may be a little more now.

This elevator was built in 1873 and is 236ft (72m) high. I believe it was the tallest elevator in the world at the time it was built.

To the right of Elevador Lacerda is the Palácio Rio Branco, Brazil's first seat of government.

Most famouse brasilian shoes: flip flops

by ludogatto

Everybody wear flip flop, from the most expensived fashion brand, but the most of all buy Havaianas or Dupè in the supermarket...u can find towsend of colors, designs....so one day we was at the beach with some brasilian and italian friends and we putted all the pairs in 2 lines....it's like a Keith Hearing pop art exibition!

Totally Creepy!

by Kittelite

After having a few beers in the Mercado Modelo baracas, you need to frequent the toilettes upstairs! On your way back, try to continue to the basement, and have a look! It is usually accessible, and lightned, This is the place where a lot of the ancestors to the today- Bahianos, spent some time, 500 years ago ( until quite reasently!!! ) UUUUHHHH!!

Elegant nights

by abmukam about Bambara

Bambara is a live music spot (mainly samba and axe'). This elegant restaurant is perfect if you want a middle class ambient. There two shows, the first one starts at 6.30pm and the second one at 9.00pm. Age 25-35. Dress up

Dessert to die for

by acemj about Sorriso da Dada

You didn't think I'd skip dessert, did you? I can't remember what this was called, but it was an amazing, rich chocolate cake of some kind. The cake was moist, almost wet, so it's possible that it was made without flour. The sauce on it was a warm, creamy, sugary coconut wonder. Wow. It was great!
