Hotel Monte Pascoal.: Nice hotel in a perfect location.

Hotel Monte Pascual is quite small for a hotel with a standard like Monta Pascual.
The reception and the breakfast area is quite small but i like that.
And the location in Barra right next to the beach and close to the lighthouse is very very good.
My room was very functional and had free wifi aswell as a nice balcony overlooking the ocean.
This is a good hotel to stay in if you want to be in a safe area by the beach while you are in Salvador.

Monte Pascoal Praia Hotel: Economic Tourist Beach Hotel

I had some business in Salvador and wanted it to be economic, it was also Danielle's and my first trip together. I found this really priceworthy package, flight and hotel at decolar.com and the trip was a real success, even though we stepped into two tourist traps ( nothing to do with the hotel though, see tips ).

The hotel was nice, albeit simple, with a funny pool in the front, overlooking the heavy traffic on the sea side drive... Rooms were nice, service was good, breakfast was VERY good and I had free wireless internet access ( for free which is not at all common in Brazil, in this country they usually don't let an opportunity go by without charging you extra for whatever... ).

The hotel is not comparable to the luxury hotels further up north along the sea side drive but luxury alone won't make me happy....

Pool there is, free internet access, right on the beach but you have to cross the busy street ( this beach is not really very nice, sorry ), the Barra lighthouse ( Farol ) is nearby and it's a bit far from the historical Salvador when it was capital of Brazil some 250 years ago or so.....

But this distance is less than from the luxury hotels and you just get a cab and pay a few dollars and that's it.....

I have to say that I was quite fond of the hotel after the first day and enjoyed my stay there and the bed was so comfty I slept like a log and woke up refreshed.....

We had a room on the 4th floor facing the ocean with a very nice 180 degree view....

I recommend it for whom doesn't mind a little simplicity that won't bother much once you get the hang of it....

Vila Gale: Great Carnival Hotel

I stayed at the Vila Gale during my trip to Salvador do Bahia for Carnival. I could not have asked for a better location. This hotel was right near the end of the main parade route. After drinking, dancing, singing, and partying for miles; it was nice not having to worry about getting "home". The rooms are nice and the beds were pretty average. The pool is awesome. It fills up quickly with beautiful Brazilians, both male and female. Plus it has a great view of the ocean. The food at the hotel restaurant was awesome! They have a wide selection of Brazilian food and you are sure to find something you like. It is an open buffet, filled with fruits, main courses, side items, and desserts. The drinks at the bar are strong and made well. The service by the wait staff is excellent as well.

A side note for you single travelers. If you are here for Carnival and looking to “hook up”; then this hotel is not for you. During Carnival, the security is extra tight. As a guest you are given a wrist band (if you lose it, it’s a hefty fee) that allows you access in and out of the hotel. The hotel security will not let you bring guest back to your room. A few guys in our tour group even tried bribing the door security, which came to an unsuccessful end.

Tropical de Bahia Hotel: Convenient base

We stayed a couple of nights only in Salvador, at this three star hotel in the city centre (the newer part, not Pelorinho), and found it absolutely fine for our needs. Its biggest draw was a good sized circular roof-top pool surrounded by sun-loungers and with a small bar selling snacks and cold drinks – a great place to unwind with an ice cream after the hectic streets of the city.

Apart from this it’s a fairly typical city centre hotel, with 12 floors and 275 rooms. The restaurant served a good buffet breakfast, and we also had dinner there one evening when we were too tired to go out (standard international fare and some Brazilian dishes). There is also a small lobby bar, ideal for a night-cap.

The rooms have the usual mod cons – air-conditioning, cable TV, hair-dryer and in-room safe. A standard double room is currently US$88, with a Brazilian buffet breakfast included.

Aram Yami Hotel: Feel "At Home" with Style

I would definately recommend this inn/hotel! The owners Lola (Brazilian) and Juan (Spanish) welcome you into their beautifully restored home as friends. The whole staff was extremely kind and helpful. They made great recommendations for places to visit that are not on the usual tourist route and Juan even took us to a fantastic restaurant that only the locals know about.

With only five or six rooms, all finished with amazing attention to detail and decoration that is a great mix of traditional Salvador and items from all over the world, you are pampered. The beds are so comfortable you never want to leave except to catch the sunsets from the infinate view pool facing the Bay of All Saints with the specialty drink of the house (caipifruta de maracuja), fantastic breakfast on the verdanda and, of course, nearby Pelourinho. Overall, a really special place you don't want to miss. Check it out at www.hotelaramyami.com!

Palacio do Geronimo: Live in Republik!!!

The building has been recently reformed so it is rather clean and colourful! There are several apartments of one or two bedrooms, living room and private bathroom. The top floor apartment has a big balcony with a wonderful view over Pelourinho. Perfect to have a “churrasco” (Brazilian style barbeque)” with the other guests and friends.

Internet access is available in each apartment keeping away the travellers with their laptops spending extra money at internet cafes. All the Republik can be connected by a subnet very useful to exchange files, music and movies within each others.

Very close to street action, this building is right in the middle of Pelourinho, giving you full and safe access to restaurants, bars, shops, percussion and capoeira classes. Fresh and young atmosphere. Ideal place to group up and exchange ideas with a lot of people from all over the world.

Is it your instinct mixing up with locals to get to know directly the bahian way of living?
Then, you have to set up a space in a "dangerous place" and turn it into a Republik!
Sharing a house? Oh yeah...
Just put together a bunch of free-spirited-funky travellers with crazy Brazilians.
Ah! Yeah plus a sound system!!!

Sofitel Salvador: A good business hotel in Salvador

Sofitel Salvador (4 star standard)

More a ‘business’ style hotel rather than a tourist hotel. Isolated position. Spacious grounds with a small 9 hole golf ‘course’. You really need a hire car or take a taxi to get out and about.
The beach is a 10min walk (and not really worth going to)
Salvador is approx 30min drive.

Spacious lounge with bar. Gym.
Excellent restaurant.

Very nice spacious swimming pool with lots of space to sunbathe. (the grilled shrimps snack at lunchtime are great!)

Bedrooms are fine, mini-bar and fridge, air conditioning, internet access (R$20 day) Great shower!

All in all, a very nice hotel with good facilities.

General warning: be very careful if walking anywhere outside the hotel, don’t wear any jewellery and just take enough cash that you need (snatch and grab thieves at work)

Bahia Pestana: Hotel Bahia Pestana

This is where we have spent the first night n Brazil and it was simply great. We had a dip in the swimming pool as soon as we arrived and we were in amazement watching the clear sky and completely different stars..
The rooms are very large and designery, staff is very friendly, breakfast was delicious. And BTW the breakfast must are the freshly made pancakes with condensed milk and coconut and obviously the fruit which is like all over in Brazil, to die for...

Hotel Redfish: Great Pousada

Lovely friendly staff with great breakfast.

Relaxing atmosphere complete with hammocks. Some noise from school opposite plus occasional taxi with sound system! All adds to the atmosphere. Not so scarey as guide books suggest.

Blue Tree Towers: Great View; Great Food

My husband and I stayed here on the first night of our honeymoon. It was a great experience. The rooms were very clean and had a beautiful ocean view. We stayed in one of the wedding suites and the room was covered with flower petals and came with champagne and truffles. The breakfast in the morning was GREAT! There were so many options of breads, cakes, fruits, fresh cooked tapioca... There was a nice pool on the roof with a view of the ocean. I've never stayed at a hotel so nice before! We hope to go back someday.
