Airport Transfer

by pete615

Is it easy to get taxi's from Salvador airport to Costa do Sauipe and how much is a one-way fare?
Thanks
Peter

Re: Airport Transfer

There's an inexpensive (under/around R$10 I think) air-conditioned bus (set up for travellers with baggage), right as you exit the door of the airport, that goes direct to the complex. They run quite regularly at most hours.

(*When you are ready to go into the historic center to sightsee, there is a bus that goes into Pelourinho from the resort.)

Don't bother with taxis. (But if you do, here are prices--R$197:

There are also transport services such as this:

Local Newspaper

by msp_ssa

If you have a grasp of Portuguese, or even Spanish to some degree, you can get an idea of what life is like in Salvador from its local papers. There's access on the web to the largest paper in town called A Tarde.

Ilha de Boipeba

by Andreas_Fran

A paradise...on earth!
To get there first you have to go in Morro do Sao Paulo in Bahia and then travel by track about an hour and get across the canal by boat!
Ilha Boipeba is a lovely island located at the mouth of the Rio Una in Bahia. Hiking trails along the beach, through the Atlantic Rainforest and across the island are the highlights.
It's also the perfect place to get away from the crowds of Salvador as there are long stretches of empty beaches that are perfect for relaxing and recovering....

Roda de Choro

by martinelli about Roda de Choro

THere is a big sensation among the scholars of music about what appeared first - Jazz or Choro. Choro (means 'weep' in portuguese) is a brazilian jazz-like music, with some special spicy touches and very peculiar beat and groove. Every thursday of the year you can check what's all about in this traditional Roda de Choro. In the group Janela Brasileira ('BRazilian Window') play some of the best musicians in Salvador, including the master Cacá do Pandeiro. Other unique qualities:

It's free

It's wonderful

It's in a very pleasant cabaret of a very pleasant theatre

This theatre is in a very pleasant square As long as you don't show up naked...

SALVADOR : CHEESE-ON-A-STICK

by swesn

This is a block of cheese (1 inch by 1 inch by 4 inches) on a stick peddled in snack stalls or by a guy carrying a make-shift portable tiny barbecue-pit. As you order it, he barbecues the cheese for a moment.

The cheese does not melt, instead, it turns slightly brown and toasted on the outside and all gooey and creamy on the inside. Heaven when you sink your teeth in it!!! Sometimes, the peddlar has a bottle of syrup to douse on the cheese.

Get it!! It is the greatest snack here in Brazil.

I found it mainly in Rio de Janeiro and Salvador.
