In this area called the Grand Canyon you will find small castles (castelinhos) and lots of different colors of clay, clay the locals collect seperate and they make wonderfull art with it in small bottles. Like drawing pictures, wel it is not easy to describe, please see the pictures for more details.
Try to see a manatee
It is something about 100km far from João Pessoa, although it seems that you will never get there because the roads are horrible. Getting here, you can relax, sail -just give about R$ 10 (around 4 dollars) to a fisherman and he will take you for a short trip around on his boat). There are Peixes-boi (manatee ) ,because the place is a reserve for them. I myself didn't see any that day! Take some food and drink and enjoy the silence of the place.
It is by Mamanguape River, in a place called Barra de Mamanguape.
MY SWEET TROPICAL WINTER
"WHERE BRAZIL IS REALLY BRAZIL"
Travelling in Brazil is a huge box of surprises and a wonderful lesson of life, when you go deep in the hidden corners of the country, you realize that Brazil is not really a country, it is a universe of many different planets.
Right now I am very far from home, after travelling in the northern Brazilian roads for more than 50 hours, I got to this unique and wonderful state called PARAIBA....
A land full of stories, a land with great thinkers coming from the people, they do not need any college knowledge to be spectacular philosophers!!!
I am proud to be at the capital city of the State, João Pessoa, this is the third eldest city of Brasil after Salvador and Rio de Janeiro. A land of many revolutions crying for freedom, a rich land which made dutch and portuguese going crazy, a land of indian stories (and they are still here!!!)....
Be prepared to find out with me a different Brazil, so many different that it is changeing my view of a Nation. Here you can really know how wonderful and fascinating this country is. I hope one day you can set foot in this magic land!
In the picture I am right there where Paraiba began, in the edge of CAMURUPIM River with the Baia da Traição...this is the place where the portuguese came in 1567 and met dangerous reefs and hungry meneating indians in despair for new meat, the famous and dangerous CARIRIS...In a land of blood and pleasure I was enjoying life for some incredible hours!
"BE A LOCAL IN JOÃO PESSOA"
Barraca Nossa Senhora da Guia...hahahaha I know it is quite chinese for you...but this is the name of a bar in front of the gorgeous Seixas Beach, the place is very simple, people are very poor, but they are very rich in terms of food, wow! :) In this simple environment you will probably have the best moments of your life. Talking with very nice people which they will welcome you with open arms.
You will have a real meal of kings there, lots of sea food with less than 10 miserable dollars!!!! And it is food for 4 people!!!
Anyway, you can find much more surprises there....Do not be afraid to walk and see new things, and you will realize that Seixas Beach is the closest point to Africa in this side of the ocean.
João Pessoa has a very strategy location for our Nation.
I am proud to be here and proud also to be part of this wonderful people!
In the picture you can see this nice lady who sleeps right close to the kitchen, her name is Maria, her son is Wendel (yes, people here love putting english names to their children). the Bar is her OWN HOUSE!!!
And in front of her house....such a tropical and magnificent beach called Seixas!!!!
"BRAVE HEART IN THE FAR LANDS OF PARAIBA"
Dona Maria...she lives alone in a house made of haystack in the corner of Coqueirinho beach, it is one of the isolated beaches in the Bay of Betreyal, this is the english name for the well know region of Baia da Traição...
She has been living in this house for 77 years...She is the live HISTORY of the place, she has been living with indians and all the difficulties of the nature, and still keeps the high mood of a native, she always invites people for a refreshing coconut water and she talks about everything.
No husband, no children, no nothing, but the whole community respect her, she is the memory of Coqueirinhos, she is the one who knows about plants and herbs...she needs help for sure, though she would never admit. but if once you go there, it would be nice if you provide her food and the joy of your presence.
She likes meeting people and share life experiences with anyone!
I am happy to have met such a wonderful person with lots of wisdon leart from the school of life!
Big kisses to DONA MARIA....The Grandma of Everybody!
