It is important to say that this page is for São Tomé das Letras, a exotic little town nailed in the top of a giant rock, a big single rock. Coming by the road, seeing the town in top of that rock...

Belo Horizonte is the capital of Minas Gerais. It's a very pleasant city to vist. The city is well planned. The streets are laid in a grid pattern which are then criss-crossed by roads laid in diamond pattern. Plazas or Pracas are then built on the junctions of these intertwining roads. It's a modern city with lots of high-rise modern buildings, but it has its fair share of beautiful mansions, imposing churches and spacious squares.
From Belo Horizonte one can easily reach the Historical cities. The most famous is Ouro Preto wich means black golden.
Considered a mark of Barroc in Brazil, this church is from 1766 to 1810 and Manuel Francisco Lisboa, known as Aleijadinho (architecture and sculpture) and Manuel da Costa Ataíde (painting and adornements) were in charge of it.
I'm going to see what might be done about giving everyone a little discourse on fine gems. They are very much an important aspect of Brazil, some of the finest emeralds coming from this area. The Minas Gerais of which Belo Horizonte is the principal city in the very heart of their mining and gem industry.
