During our time in the Pantanal we used the company ecological expeditions. They picked us up from Bonito and handled the lodging and activities throughout the time there. We stayed in little "huts" which were screened in with thatched roofs. Every room has a number of hammocks for all the guests to stay in. Food is included with the trip. There are cold showers and bathrooms but the lines get long at peak time in the evenings. Who needs to shower...you are in the Pantanal! They have a fire pit to sit around at night which helps keep the mosquitos away to some degree. I loved the accomodations, but you have to know ahead of time what they are like so you are prepared to "rough it" a little. This place was great and lets you experience the Pantanal as it should be experienced.
The only problem we had was another group was there at the same time we were. They stayed up drinking all night and started getting really loud. Considering you are all in a small area and the huts are screened in you can imagine it was loud and difficult to sleep.
Well, we had a huge tarantula crawling in our room. That's why you sleep in hammocks!

caiman eco lodge.: very comfortable and interesting lodge.
The caiman eco lodge is one of the best lodges in the Pantanal and has among many visitors had Harrison Ford staying there.
The lodge also runs a project that is amied at saving the hyacinth macaw, the biggest parrot in the world.
A project that has so far been very succesful.
The lodge is quite expensive, but in my opiniuon it?s well worth it.
The pantanal has a lot of insects and it's one place where you really appreciate air condition and swimming pool when you have been out exploring wildlife the whole day.
The place is also a farm that has 27000 cattle and 800 horses, so you also get the chance to follow the life on a brazilian cattle ranch.
I found the place extremely child friendly and i had that confirmed by 2 families who stayed there with small cildren aged 4 till 7 years.
Good facilities and highly qualified guides.
The accomodation price usually includes full board and 2-3 excursions a day.

Pousada Cayman: Cattle Ranch Guesthouse
Pousada Cayman is on the south eastern rim of the Pantanal , some 150 km west of Campo Grande (capital of Mato Grosso do Sul) in an area or near a small city called Miranda. The pousada belongs to a gigantic cattle ranch and you can visit the Pantanal cowboys and watch them do their work. The pousada itself is cozy , simple and comfortable. All meals are served here as there is "nothing" within a radius of at least 50 km.... There's a nice pool area to relax , a small bar and that's about it.....
You get woken up at 6:15 AM every day by a hellish bell sound whether you like it or not and then taken on some kind of tour of which I will describe three in the "What to do" section....
As this was kind of an adventurous ecotrip , I sacrificed my usual need for just a little more luxury and comfort , but I do not repent one second I spent there.....
The only unique quality of this place is probably its location...... otherwise it is "nothing special" , but still cozy , charming and the right place where from you start to explore the Pantanal...

Pousada Santa Teresa: Pousada Santa Teresa
Absolutely great experience! We had a guide only for the 2 of us for the whole stay. The boat rides are amazing (boats have a silent motor) and hamming birds are just all the time on the tree in front of the house. But the real amazing experience is to see the giant otter family that lives in the river closed by there...
This is THE best place to see the giant river otters. Giant river otters are one the endangered species with only about 3000 otters still reamining in the world. They are huge, reaching up to 2 m. If you fish too many piranhas, you can feed them!!

Pousada Rio Clarinho: Pousada Rio Clarinho
We just showed up without any reservations and we got a great guide for the two of us for 2 days. All the activities are included, the accomodation is pretti basic but food is good. Great horses for horse riding!
Very cheap compared to other places. Ask for Van DeerLA as a guide, he is great (he speaks only portuguese tough..). On the river side, you can see river ottere, emus...just right in front of the lodge! They have a great cat!!

Araras Lodge: Araras Lodge
The Araras Lodge is the best Lodge we have been in the Pantanal. Great rooms, great service, swimming pool and organized activities during the day.
The hiking trails from the lodge were amazing to see Jacares, monkeys and all sort of birds. You can do it at different times of the day and you always see something new.
Also amazing are the BLUE macaws (ARARAS) that live nearby. It's amazing to see them fly close by from the swimming pool.

Rancho Baiazinha: Fazenda Cayman in Mato Grosso
Baiazinha is a small 6 bedroom ranch on a large working ranch as well as an ecological reserve.
Over 300 species of birds, tons of crocodiles fish , monkeys and other unique animals only found in this region like the tamandua ant eater, formula one frogs, quati, the Hyacynth macaws, toucans, etc.
The ranch Baiazinha is one of four ranches inside the Fazenda Cayman. It is our favorite and is complete with communal living dining room, a veranda floating over an alligator infested lagoon, a swimming pool. .
The offer tours , usually one in morning , one in afternoon and sometimes in the evening also. Some are by 4x 4 , some by boat, some on foot, mostly all are to see the incredible amount of wildlife this place has to offer.
Usually one spends only 3 nights there which I think is barely enough.
The tall pink Piuva trees in August are beautiful. in bloom.
Accomodations are clean and confortable.

Pousada Curupira: Pousada near Corumba
The Pousada Curupira is acessable from Corumba city, about 25 kms far from it.
The rooms of the inn with 40 m² each, has screened verandah, small living, bedroom and bathroom. In each one of them you'll find at your disposal conditioning air, fridge, color TV with satellite and a freezer to keep the fishing to the fans of sportive fishing.
The Inn Curupira has a self-serve restaurant with conditioning air, swimming pool, picnic stands, and barbecue makers for your leisure. Parque Hotel Passo de Lontra
We visited the Pantanal for 4 days and organised our trip and departed from Campo Grande. We stayed at the Parque Hotel in Passo de Lontra for 3 nights which was brilliant. The accommodation was really good, in chalets on stilts and you get all your meals catered for too. The scenery and wildlife is amazing. We didn`t see any Jaguars or Pumas, but saw loads of different birds, alligators, Capivara and others. We had a really good guide, Cosme, who took us crocodile hunting, on boat trips, hikes, horse riding etc. He was really knowledgable about the area and had a real enthusiasm for the Pantanal and its wildlife. The Parque Hotel is in a great position as it is right on the river and I would definitely recommend a stay there if you wish to experience the Pantanal. They have a website but it is only in Portugese. The address is http://www.passodolontra.com.br/.
I think we paid about 450 Reais for the 3 nights but cannot remember exactly. You can organise trips to other areas of the Pantanal from Campo Grande at one of the many agencies there. Some are a lot cheaper but they involve camping and are more basic. It`s really a preference as to what you prefer.
The chalets on stilts have air condition, ventilator, telephone and frigobar.
Price for full pension (breakfast, meal and night-meal) per day is:
SINGLE: R$ 211,00 DUPLO: R$ 238,00
TRIPLO: R$ 339,00
QUÁDRUPLO: R$ 424,00
QUÍNTUPLO: R$ 500,00

Araras Eco Lodge: A Decent Lodge in the Northern Pantanal
The lodge is about four hours by road from Cuiaba, Mato Grasso. Rooms and conveniences are spartan. There's a pool, however, and the food is quite good.
Araras offers horseback riding through the swamp; canoeing with river otter spotting (and stops on heavily mosquitoed islets); and good bird–watching.
A mama, papa, and baby hyacinth macaw roosted in a palm tree just behind the lodge. For an 'arara azul' lover it was a thrill to see them take off in the morning and return just before sunset.
At the end of the Transpantaneira highway — another two hours from the lodge — stands a Best Western hotel. A week before we visited, we were told, a jaguar had attacked and killed a local man. There were no guests at the Best Western during our stop, though probably not because they'd all been eaten.

Refúgio Ecológico Caiman: Luxury Accommodations in the Pantanal
Refúgio Ecológico Caiman is four hours by motor vehicle from Campo Grande, Mato Grasso do Sul.
Caiman consists of a main building and satellite lodges. Rooms are modern and immaculately maintained. Guides are informed and attentive. Food is remarkably good.
Given its location, it would not be inappropriate to call Refúgio luxurious.
Horseback riding through the swamps, canoe trips, and bird– and wild–life spotting are among the activities offered.
Refúgio is a working ranch as well as a eco–tourist resort. It is also headquarters of the Hyacinth Macaw Project — one of two main efforts to preserve this magnificent, seriously endangered bird. (Perhaps as few as 3,000 hyacinths exist in the wild, most here, others in a small area in northeastern Brazil.)
