The Serengheti of the South America
"Do not miss the Pantanal"
The Pantanal is a unique ecosystem that spreads across southern Brazil and Bolivia. It is beautiful place that many non-Brazilians don't even know exist. It consists of grassland, different kinds of baias (freshwater pools), salinas and gallery forest. These habitats are home to caiman, tapir, jaguar, gaint anteater (some say the largest in Latin America) and the giant river otter ! The birdwatching was the best I've seen anywhere. Jaibaru storks, hyacinth macaws, the list goes on and on> I stayed at a the Fazenda Rio Negro on the banks of the river. It was a great experience staying at working Brazilian ranch and the food was wonderful. It was really great!
"The Rio Negro"
The Rio Negro is the river that the Fazenda is named after. A fazenda is a Brazilian ranch. This fazenda is a working ranch complete with voqueros (Brazilian cowboys). It is also an inn, that specializes in getting those who come there close to the wonderful habitat and denizens of the Pantanal.
"The ranch house"
This is the ranch house where we stayed in the Pantanal. It was a beautiful historic building refurbished for guests. We had truly amazing meals there! Brazilian food is so good! The fazenda is a great place to relax. Just pick a hammock and watch the rheas and horses stroll by.
