Porto de Galinhas

Porto de Galinhas is famous for its natural pools that are formed at low tide.

There are several excellent beaches like the praia de Maracaipe which is excellent for surfing, or de praia de Muro Alto, which has a huge reef (recife) and sandbanks and makes it very pleasant for bathing.

Do see Muro Alto near Porto de...

Do see Muro Alto near Porto de Galinhas in Pernambuco.
Do see the Barra de Siranhaem.
Do befriend a taxi driver.
Do eat with his family, no matter how many differnt families that may be.

oh, and perhaps most off the beaten path: there is a small cantina at a sandbar where the river meets the sea near Porto de Galinhas, accesible by foot and dune buggy (R$25-R$50 for dune buggy rental and guide, not counting the fact that he'll want you to feed him...which is not a bad thing). I strongly recommend that one goes there, swims in teh mixed waters, hides in the manguezal, takes a small jangada out on the waters, eats and drinks one's self into oblivion (not *too* much, though, unless you're among friends) and enjoy the place. Wonderful, fresh seafood of the likes you will find all over Pernambuco, but of a certain quality that you'll only find at that sandbar....and blast it if i can remember the name, but i can't at the moment.

weather in august in brasil

Hey!!

im going away on holiday for 10 days in agust, and am curious to know what the weather will be like then in recife (nannai, summerville) and Bahia, praia forte. Is it hot then?? Is ther any rain???

August is winter in Recife, and besides it won't be cold (low=20C. high=28C.), it'll have some rain.

Brazil in July

We are planning on spending our honeymoon in Brazil during the month of July.
Any ideas for good places to eat and drink. We are planning on staying at the Rio Internacioal on copacabana ....any info on the hotel ? Also weather wise, I know it's winter, but I'm Irish so what can I expect.

Also we are planning on traveling to Iguasso falls (cold i'm sure) then a week or so in the Northeast.
We have a choice between praia do Forte Eco resort or Nannai in Muro Alto near Porto de Galinhas south of Recife. Has anyone any info on either of these places or which they would recommend. Also what kind of weather can we expect there in July ?

I have some eating recommendations on my Rio page.

I've stayed on business in the Rio Internacional - perfectly OK, if a bit close to the sleazier part of Copacabana.

Recife in July will offer temperatures in the mid-20s, but quite a lot of rain.
