Travel Tips for Recife

Gaibu beach

by cachaseiro

A couple of hours south of Recife you have the beach of Gaibu.
It's a small place where you mostly have brazilians on weekend trips.
The beach has a good surf and there is often concerts on the beach during the weekends.
There are also a couple of pousadas where you can stay overnight for little money.

Visit Cape Sto Agostinho...

Visit Cape Sto Agostinho Resort.
Depending of tide level, water level became so shallow that you have to walk a lot to reach deeper water. In March, water is so warm that you can swim at night like taking bath in a Jacuzzi.

"Recife, I love you !"

The city located in the geographic centre of the North-Eastern region, founded by the Portuguese in 1537 and became the capital of Pernambuco in 1827 is a place where the natural beauty lives in perfect harmony with its historical heritage. In teh centre, the bridges that cross the rivers we can see the dutch origin due the period of Dutch occupation in the XVII century, between 1630 and 1654. The Dutches transformed the village into a shopping center, mixing the movement of goods due to the presence of the port and the Jews, traders by excellence. The population was composed of sailors, shippers and fishermen, they lived in houses made of straw at the far south of the peninsula. It was from a small port that the city that was growing, until become the capital of Pernambuco, transforming the export of sugar to Europe in one of the most profitable businesses of the time. The anniversary of the city is celebrated on March 12.
It is one of most famous touristic point of Brazil and as well attracts a lot of tourists over the World. In the historic streets of Old Recife , you can visit the first sinagogue in America ; the Malakoff Tower, the ancient state observatory; the statues in the Sculpture Park created by the sculptor Francisco Brennand and found in front of Marco Zero Square.
In centro you can also visit the San Jose Market and the House of Culture ( Casa da Cultura ), places where regional handcrafts share the space with exotic ingredients, ideal for culinary uses or alternative medicine.
On Boa Viagem beach ( Nice Trip Beach ), one of most beautiful in Brazil , your warm waters and white sand you will find the reefs which form beautiful natural pools, a formation which can be found thoughout the length of the city seaport. Its " reefs" nammed the city Recife ( that is reef in portuguese ).
Besides all the natural beauty and historic, Recife has the best street Carnival of Brazil with its popular ritms , dances as " coco ", "maracatu", " ciranda" and the unforgettable " frevo" ...
So, next time come to Recife and try its greetfull people, the beaches, its culture, the good culinary and the taste of the delicious fruits like " caja ", I loved the caja juice ( suco de caja ).

My hotel was in Boa Viagem

by penpoison

Even though I flew to Recife, my hotel was in Boa Viagem which was closer to the airport. Also, I spent some time at the Shopping Center which I easily spent a few hours, went to the outdoor crafts market which I highly recommend and Olinda which was quite beautiful.
