Porto de galinhas
Porto de galinhas is another beach near Recife that is worth visiting.
It's a little more upscale than Gaibu and the crowd tend to be a little older.
It's a good place to see famous brazilians as many of them have a house here.

Hello...we are arriving by cruise ship into Recife in March. Our tour, through Viator, will not pick us up at the port...only at a hotel. Could someone tell me what the closet hotel to the cruise port would be?
Thank you so much.
Joyce
you'd better don't stay too close to port..
Are you looking for something not to expensive? Tulip Inn Recife is not far, six miles from the port, a good 3 stars hotel and easy to reach from airport too (about 3 miles)
Sorry to be not too clear. All we're looking for is a place to stand and wait to be picked up by the tour company. Grey Line is the tour operator..and they won't come into the port area to pick us up for our tour.
There will be about 20 of us waiting at about 8:30 in the morning...so we just need a hotel close to the port where we will wait for the bus. We don't need accommodations.
Can you name a hotel for us?
Thank you!
Dear Joyce
Your predicament is so sad and illogical. Why will your tour company not pick you all up at the port? We live less than an hour up the coast on the tropical island of Itamaraca. Can we help? contact debbiezorab@yahoo.com
Hello....thank you for your offer. I think we'll just take a bus to the hotel from where the port shuttle drops us off.
Have a nice day,
Joyce

Recife Antigo (“Old Recife”) is how it´s called the historic center of the city. The town grew around the port and, after the arrival of Mauricio de Nassau to Pernambuco, in 1637, it started to have more urban characteristics (Pernambuco was dominated by Holland from 1637 until 1654; it´s a chapter of Brazilian history known as “the dutch invasion”).
The region of the port is known as “Marco Zero”. It´s considered the landmark of the foundation of the city. After Port of Suape inauguration, in the 80´s, Old Recife entered a period of decay and the rich architectural inheritance deteriorated. There´s been some efforts to recover it since the 90´s and many old buildings have already been restored, such as the old stock exchange building and the old houses of Rua Aurora.
is the fourth largest Metropolitan area in Brazil and the capital of the state of Pernambuco. The population was 1,549,980 in 2007. Recife is located where the Beberibe River meets the Capibaribe River to flow into the Atlantic Ocean. It is a major port on the Atlantic Ocean. The name Recife means "reef" in Portuguese, in allusion to the coral reefs that are present by the city's shores. The many rivers and bridges found in Recife characterize its geography and gives it the moniker of the "Brazilian Venice".
The Metropolitan Region of Recife is the main industrial zone of the State of Pernambuco; most relevant products are those derived from cane (sugar and ethanol), electronics, food, and others; thanks to the fiscal incentives of government, many industrial enterprises were started in the 1970s and 1980s. Recife has a tradition of being the most important commercial center of Northeastern Brazil.
A combination of a large supply of labor and significant private investments turned Recife into Brazil's second largest medical center, (second only to São Paulo); modern hospitals with state-of-the-art equipments receive patients from several neighboring States. Like all other cities in Northeast, Recife is developing its tourist sector. The beach of Porto de Galinhas, 60 kilometers (37 miles) south of the city, has been repeatedly awarded the title of best beach in Brazil and has drawn many tourists. Recife's infrastructure is among the most developed in Brazil for travellers and businessmen, though there is wide room for improvement.
The city is also a renowned educational center, and home to the Federal University of Pernambuco, the largest university in Pernambuco. Several Brazilian historical figures, such as the poet and abolitionist Castro Alves, moved to Recife to attain their education, though in recent years, the quality of education in Recife has lagged relative to its neighboring cities.
Recife is served by the Gilberto Freyre/Guararapes International Airport which connects Recife to several Brazilian destinations as well as major international cities in Europe and the United States.
Recife, city and harbor in the northeast of Brazil, it’s the capital of Pernambuco State, near the Atlantic Ocean. The Capibaribe river bathes all the city; for this reason it is called “The Brazilian Venice”. Nevertheless, its peculiar bridges follow a dutch design, having been built during Mauricio de Nassau Government.
