Apartments in Floripa

by amowers

Hey everyone,

I just arrived in Floripa a few days ago and I must say, I am having a very difficult time finding an apartment. I am here with my Brazilian boyfriend, which I thought would make things 100x easier, but he might as well be Australian for all the difference its making! We both arrived here from Canada a few weeks ago.

Since we arrived in Florianopolis we have been wandering through the imobiliarias of the city in hope of finding something in the centre of the city for around $500-600 Reais per month, for a one bedroom apartment, preferably furnished. The problem that we are having, however, isnt finding an aparment that interests us..it is finding an apartment that we CAN get! We did not anticipate any of the problems we are having right now. All of the imobiliarias are requiring a guarantor that has at least 2 pieces of property here in Floripa and although my boyfriends parents do in Sao Paulo, it is not helping. There seems to be almost no way to get around it..besides paying some company 2 months rent just to be your guarantor, which is ridiculous.

Has anyone been through a similar experience? Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions to get us settled here in Floria? Its such a beautiful place and I would hate to leave on account of not being able to find a place to live...

Thanks so much in advance for any possible help from all of you who live in this beautiful city!

Ashley

Ashley, please let me know if you're still there. I don't seem to realize if you were staying for long or not. I'm so sorry I haven't been to the forum. I can help you. Please write me at reobasco@dedicado.net.uy

Cheers!

Hi Ashley,

This is not an answer, rather a question..
I was thinking of spending few months in Floreanopolis and if possible rent a furnished studio or 1 bedroom apartment. I will probably have even more problems than you as I have no contacts at all.
How did you do? Did you find a place?
Any suggestions? Where to look, where to stay etc..
Thanks
Fbak

Hi Ashley,
My boyfriend's sister just moved to Rio and had the same problem. Even though she is Brazilian, she had no idea how difficult it was going to be to find a place, especially without a Fiador. Luckily she has relatives in Rio and was able to get one of them to be her guarantor. She is moving in this weekend. I'm curious to hear how things worked out for you. My boyfriend and I have plans to move to Floripa in March/April of 2007. Were you able to get a place there? Are you still living there? How did you get a visa for a longer stay? It would be great to hear from you!
All the best,
ShanghaiSally

Travel Tips for Florianópolis

Guaraná

by Deise05

If you didn't try guarana yet, you must to! Is the exotic flavor that makes guarana sodas so interesting. The best brands deliver a fruity taste, aren't overloaded with sugar, and have a pleasant aftertaste.

praia do forte

by randychiara

Works only with big E swells, a right peels light a point break. Holds up to 5 ‘ with E or S winds. Low tide is better. To get there go to Canasvieiras and then take left at the Ponta Grossa turn off. Ask locals if you have problems, there’s an ancient militar fortress close to the beach.

Santinho

This beach retains an interenting heap of cave pictures and incriptions along the rocky coast. It is one of the surfers’ favorite beach with waves of good formation. An attraction pole for the summer season due to the settling of a tourists resort and timeshare plant.

Florianópolis

"The city Florianópolis"

Florianopolis, the capital of the State of Santa Catarina, is located on the west coast of the Ilha (island) de Santa Catarina and is linked to the mainland by the longest suspension bridge in Brazil, the Hercilio Luz Bridge. The city was first setlled by Spaniards in 1542, but by 1675 the Portuguese took control of the island. The captaincy of Santa Catarina was created in 1738 to serve as an outpost in the Portuguese-Spanish territorial wars. During the 19th century a considerable immigration of non-Portuguese peoples occurred. Germans arrived as early as 1829 and came in great numbers during the 1850s, settling not only in Florianopolis, but also along the valleys in the mainland. Anita Garibaldi, wife of Giuseppe Garibaldi fought in the Farroupilha Revolution of 1839, an unsuccessful separatist rebellion in the early days of the empire. Later other waves of immigrants from Italy, Poland, and Russia arrived in Santa Catarina to build new lives. Today Florianopolis is a busy commercial center.

"Lagoa da Conceição"

Beautifull lake on 15 minutes drive in the east direction of the city. You can find here beautifull places for diner. You can walk through the forest round the lake and make boattrips.
In the surrounding there are several nice beaches and dunes.

BOMBINHAS

by Julie_B

"Bombinhas"

In the past, it was a hiding-place for pirates and seaman, today it is a small paradise for those that seek nature, peace, and quiet. Bombinhas lies between the Atlantic Ocean and Porto Belo 70 km distant from Florianopolis. It has absolutely clean water and is an international diving center, ideal for all water sports. Virgin forest paths in natural surroundings lead to isolated beaches and into the hills.

In Bombinhas there is the nature preserve of Arvoredo consisting of the islands Galé, Deserta, Arvoredo und Calhau de São Pedro. From the water, one can enjoy the beautiful view of the flora and under water one comes in contact with the undescribable beauty of sea fauna.
