Beach umbrella and sun block are very important because if you don't take care you're gonna look like a lobster in no time! Take extra care during the 12 pm sun; you shouldn't sun bath during this time!!! Oh there is plenty beach umbrella available for rent at the beaches!

Sandboard!

You should practice sandboard, it's relatively cheap to rent a board (about US$ 1,5 for an hour when I've been there) and it's a great sport, kinda similar to snowboarding.

Look for the dunes located near Joaquina Beach and start surfing! ;-)

When you end it all covered up in sand, just walk a few meters and have a refreshing dive; Joaquina Beach is one of the most beautiful in the island.

paradises outside Floripa

Outside Florianopolis the best places are; Guarda, Garopaba and Imbituba, there’s large variety of waves with excellent quality. In these places the waves are usually1-2 foot bigger than in Floripa. There’s no traffic, most of the inner roads are not paved, food is cheap and the water is a bit colder.

It is more like a Country side, you’ll see several farms and many fishermen and their families. English is not familiar to many of them, but they are pretty easy going and won’t mind carrying on a conversation in sign language, tending to be helpful with foreigners.

"An Island Of Everything"

Florianópolis is the capital city of Santa Catarina State in southern Brazil. It is an island city with a population of 450,000.

It is surrounded by smaller islands with forts which protected ships in the 17th century. Most of the population lives in its northern half. The southern half is more isolated and less developed. Though originally settled by Portuguese, like the rest of Brazil, the city has a heavy German and Italian influence. Florianópolis is a popular destination for South American tourists, because of its location and white sand beaches.
