Hi,
This is my first trip to Brazil.
I'll be arriving in the morning at Garulho's Airport (SAO).
I need to know what bus(es) to take, hopefully the same line, all the way from the Airport, to at least Belo Horizonte (MG).
Should I decide to stay close by the airport, which would be a reasonable priced hotel, with average standard of comfort and cleanliness?
If someone has already traveled this, or did this rout, let me know about it, as soon as you can

There is no way to take a bus from the Guarulhos Airport to any place in the state of Minas Gerais. You will have to take a bus downtown and then go the right bus terminal ( there are several of these terminals in São Paulo ) to take your bus to Belo Horizonte. I don't know if there is a bus directly from São Paulo to Nova Lima.I suspect there isn't.

Would you know the approx. travel time between Sao Paolo and Belo Horizonte and the cost of the ticket?
By the way is visa needed for US citizens to stay for a couple of weeks?
I would suggest flying from Sao Paulo to Belo Horizonte and taking a local bus from there. Nova Lima is a kind of suburb of B.H. Take a look at GOL or maybe Webjet for relatively cheap flights, which could actually be less than the bus in some cases.
Yes, you need a valid visa for any time you (assuming you have U.S. citizenship/passport) spend in Brazil.
The distance from Sao Paulo to Belo Horizote is 585km (or 366miles). If you're going by bus you first need to go to the bus terminal in Sao Paulo. The trip will take about 8hours. From Belo Horizonte to Nova Lima you can take a local bus.
Do you want hotel close to what? Sao Paulo's airport? Belo Horizonte's airport?

I would definitely take a flight from GRU to Belo Horizonte instead of taking a bus. Actually I would have bought this ticket together with your ticket to Brazil and made it a “single journey” ticket from your place to Belo Horizonte. See with your travel agent if it’s something possible to do (if you buy tickets separated, you’d have to check in twice and respect “luggage allowance rules” from the Brazilian company to national flights, which is not a good thing… a ticket from your place to Belo Horizonte bought together would give you more comfort (you'd do a connection only), that’s for sure.
Well, supposing you really wanna go to Belo Horizonte by Bus.
You’d have to take a cap or bus from the airport to Tiete bus station and then to have 7 more hours of travel. Also, I’m a little bit afraid of letting you alone in Brazilian bus stations, honestly.
See what you can do, otherwise I can post more specific information of how getting in BH by bus.

A good place to visit is the 'Pico do Jaragua', over there you can have a great view of the city. And, of course, you need to go to the beach, they're not so far from São Paulo's city. We have wonderful beachs at the north. The best thing, is here you can find everything you want, and you don't need to go so far to find it.
The Tiete River bank Park is great - wonderful trails, good picnic and barbecue areas, there is even row boats for rental.
However, the Tiete River is very polluted and during hot, dry periods the park can have a very unpleasant smell.
Many pubs are open at night, but be sure to take care, because it is a big city and there are inherent dangers. Many nightclubs are located near Augusta boulevard. Being there with my father, I didn't have too many opportunities to let my hair down with the locals!!
One of the best places to eat is Figueira Rubayat. It is THE place to see and to be seen, as well as to eat very well. Of course, it has the inconvenient of being expensive. But most foreigners won't find the price as outrageous as most Brazilians due to the exchange rates.
you can seat under the shades of an old tree with huge branches. And the best is that even if it rains, you won't ger wet sine the have a transparent covering. Arroz da Praia - it's rice prepared with seafood (like a risoto)
Samaro is wonderful! It´s almost open 24h a day, there´s always cold beer, cool staff, nice people, delicious fries. It´s everything you always wanted from a simple snackbar AND they have tequila both golden and silver! French Fries! Cold beer! Tequila!
