Hola !!!
I am arriving in Sao Paulo by bus from Montevideo late at night, around 10 pm. Is there a safe taxi company to use to get me from Tiete bus station to downtown as i have already booked a hotel in the area. Also how much will it cost me, as i dont want to get ripped off, and are there ATM machines at the bus terminal ?
Many thanks, Finders
Tiete Bus Station is a big Subway/Bus station. There you may find many ATMs.
Here in Brazil they are known as Caixas Eletronicos. They are useful for bank clients when they need some money at last minute. I will note below some name of banks that used to set ATM going at Rodoviaria do Tiete:
* Bradesco (Brazilian bank)
* Itau (Brazilian bank)
* Banespa (Brazilian bank)
* Banco do Brasil (Brazilian bank)
* HSBC
* Nossa Caixa (Brazilian bank)
* Banco 24Hs (?)
There are many taxi ranks at Tiete Bus Station as well. You may find no problems at all in finding some taxi there. The question is "where is your hotel?".
I am not prepared in answering you how much it will cost your transportation to hotel.
So I suggest you head to information desk and ask the clerks to put you on the right path to a safe transportation to your hotel. Generally the taxi service in São Paulo city is OK. Rodoviaria do Tiete is around 10Km far from São Paulo downtown.
If your baggages are slight and portuguese/spanish are fluent used I suggest you use the line 1 subway. As I said Tiete Bus Station is a subway station as well. You may certainly have a cheaper transportation this way.

Go do it. Games are played at the municipal stadiums like the Pacembau. Check out the web for fixtures. Turn up on the day. Tickets are about £8 for premier league games. Shows how much we get ripped off in the UK!
This club in the center of Sao Paulo gets good after 3am until late in the morning. This is where the creatures of the night hang out. The music is electronica and loud and the crowd is explosive. Good time guaranteed.
The landscaping, the TREE, here is only the beginning. Drippy candles on wrought iron stands, bubbling manmade rivers and rocks, and these awesome woodburning fireplace-heater-boxes are just several of the standout design details. Hey! Figueira also has some pretty damn fine food. The best beef and lamb you could possibly pray to the red meat gods for, as well as a spectacular traditional bacalhau you just know you cannot finish but you try to anyway. Save some space, whatever you do, for the DESSERT BUFFET!! There still seemed to be a yummy lamb dish on the menu, but this time around I opted for the Brazilian-Portuguese saltcod standard (R$80) called bacalhau. Ha! Standard, my eye. There's nothing average or standard about anything in this restaurant. And did I mention the Dessert Buffet??? Creme Catalan with an incredible burnt sugar crust topping, walnut pie with waaaay more nuts than syrup, and the densest chocolate pie on record called Chocolate Nemesis...and more...for only R$14 per person!!
There are two things Sao Paulo is best known for in Brazil: business and food. Because the city's sprawling population represents every ethnicity in the country, cuisine in Sao Paulo becomes a matter of choice. There are thousands of restaurants, and if there's something you crave it's bound to be there, be it the obscurest of world cuisine or a simple slice of pizza - a local favorite.
