How to get from Downtown SP to Alphaville
by jmma
Hey !. I'll be travelling to Sao Paulo for work and will be staying in Alphaville.
I want to do a day tour in SP. How can I get from Av. Paulista to Alphaville?
Is there a cheaper way than a taxi? How much?
Many thanks !!

The search function on this site is quite good. The information you need re: bus route number can be found on this older thread:

Alphaville is a big São Paulo undertaking. There are four train stations you may use to go to Av Paulista: Antonio João, Barueri, Jardim Belval and Jardim Silveira. These stations are connected in Line 8 CTPM trains. You shall select the best one for you before your journey.
Since you have chosen the departure train station good enough for you in Alphaville you may buy a ticket to Julio Prestes station.
Now you may walk. It's 10 minutes walk from Julio Prestes Station to Luz subway station. Buy a subway ticket to Paraiso Station in "blue line" subway.
Paraiso station is a transfer subway station. Now you may get the "green line" subway to Trianon-MASP station free of charge. Trianon-Masp station is on Av Paulista...
I have read here the TRAIN line 8 has too many stopover stations to Julio Prestes, and maybe depending on the rush hour it may be crowded.
I suggest a brazilian friend staying by you at your first journey just to solve some brazilian speech would be fine. Some spanish may help you to buy a return trip ticket. Most of all brazilians are not english fluent here.
I am sending some links concerned in this issue:

Travel Tips for São Paulo
FAAP University Location
by marakaki
Very nice and rich neighborhood in Higienópolis. It´s in central area, near to these places:
Shopping Higienópolis (http://www.patiohigienopolis.com.br/)
Mackenzie University (http://www.mackenzie.br/)
Pacaembu Stadium and Soccer Museum (http://www.museudofutebol.org.br/)
Besides, it is pretty close to Av. Paulista.
FAAP has a beautiful building and they are very engaged in arts and culture. I visited some interesting exhibitions there.
Well, if you have not been to...

Well, if you have not been to Japan and want to get a glimpse of it, you can actually do this in SP. 1 or 2 million japanese live in the city, and their presence can be seen in countless japanese restaurants as well as in some japanese gardens, temples and buildings within the city. In July, they celebrate their festival in the city, but there are always some activities around the year (e.g. 'Ikebana' exhibitions). More about the history of the japanese people of SP can be found in a very interesting museum. Also, in Itapuera da Sera, a small city close to SP, you find a japanese temple which is a copy of the famous Kinkaku-ji ('Gold') Temple in Kyoto.
OUR NATIONAL BIGGEST HARBOUR
by RafaelTheSecond
Santos is a big city in the sea shore and the palce where we have the biggest brazilian harbour! This is also a very important exit to our exportation. The Santos Harbour is so big that lends part of our territory to the goverment of Paraguay who has a harbour there as they do not have any exit to the sea!

Great Sushi
by Lady_Disdain about Dai
A very reasonably priced (R$ 25,00 for the buffet) and varied japanese buffet.
The food is very fresh, the sashimi is well cut (tuna, salmon and white fish), the sushi spread is different every night (hot rolls, salmon skin, california, etc.) and you can order temaki at the table. There is also a selection of hot dishes (tempura, yakissoba, spring rolls and others) and a great rice salad.
If you prefer, there is also a menu. The buffet!
Visiting Liberdade
by Elainehead
Liberdade is considered as a little part of Japan. Here you can find the biggest Japanese community outside Japan. The streets are decorated with lanterns welcoming visitors. It's a great place for Asian food lovers. Every Sunday there is an open market. Every now and then, there are special events organized by Japanese immigrants.
