Farmers Market
by Lady_Disdain
We like our fruits and vegetables fresh!
Every neighbourhood, from trendy Jardins to humble Santo Amaro, has a weekly market. A side street is roped off and farmers (or agents) set up their stalls, full of vegetables, fruits, fresh eggs, poultry and herbs. Each one is held on a specific day, both during the week or the weekend.
Housewives, housekeepers and families can be seen shopping for fresh produce, often pulling wire carts to make things easier. Most things are sold by the bunch, unit or bowlful. Visit every stall - you will soon learn who has the best of each thing you like.
The stall holders are part of the fun. They yell out slogans to call clients, as well as set lines such as "I don't charge beautiful women - but they can't take anything either!". Bargain, ask for a discount - anything goes!
After all that - I'm usually starved! So off to the pastel. This is a delicious treat of very thin dought (like a spring roll sheet) but instead of rolling it, it is cut in a large square, stuffed with cheese, chicken, palm heart, mince meat or anything else and fried. A lot of calories, but delicious!
To go with your pastel, ask for guarapa or sugar cane juice. You can see the guy extracting the juice in a small hand driven mill! It is very sweet, so add some lemon to cut it slightly.

Getting around by Metro
by mangueirense
The easiest way to get around Sao Paulo is to use the metro system. There are three main lines: the North-South line, East-West line, and the one that just travels underneath the Avenida Paulista, bedsides the 4 newest expansion lines.
The two main lines converge at Sa station, the busiest station of all. These two lines run daily from 5am until midnight. The line under Avenida Paulista meets the North-South line at Paraiso and Ana Rosa stations and runs daily from 6am to 10pm. It is usually a lot quicker to take the metro as close as possible to your destination even if it means a bit more of a walk or maybe a short taxi ride than taking the bus all the way. Metro tickets cost R$1.90 for a single ride and R$3,60 for two rides; a 10-ride ticket is available for R$ 17,00. They can be purchased from ticket machines or from kiosks at every metro station. The tickets are magnetic strips you insert in the turnstile; buying multiple ride tickets saves money and time. For more information contact the :

Creative plates with exotic fruits!
by Shibiru about Chacara Santa Cecilia
It's a wonderful place, with trees, plants, wood and it's really big. U can stay at the bar, dance at the disco or eat pizza or even, where I went with my sisters, eat special plates.
It's a great place to go with the family, with friends or even business people...'cause it's different, cozy and has all the ages. I can't really remember what we ate...but the dessert was something with cupuacu : it's a fruit from the north of Brazil and we also had Tamarindo juice...hmmmm:-)
