See the following recipe for feijoada. Good luck finding (and handling) some of these ingredients! ************
Ingredients:
1 pound dried beef
1/2 pound of hard sausage
1 pound of pork
half a pound of ham
half a pound of bacon
1 pound of pig's ears or tongues
1 pig's foot
2 big chopped onions
3 cloves of garlic
3 bay leaves
ground pepper
salt
ground nutmeg
1 cup of orange juice
2 pounds of prepared black beans (canned, or pre-soaked)
************
Directions:
1. Soak the dried meat overnight. The pig foot, tongue and ears can be substituted with any kind of pork.
2. Chop all the meats.
3. Put all the ingredients in a large pot.
4. Cover with water. Put on high heat.
5. When all has come to a boil, simmer for 3 hours.
6. Serve with white rice.
7. Sprinkle with toasted cassava flour (farinha de mandioca torrada).
8. Serve with slices of orange.
9. It also tastes nice with a salad made of chopped orange, grated coconut, and thinly sliced onion. ***************** Enjoy!
BRAS SHOPS FROM THE OUTSIDE
by schurlif about (Can you read the names...?)
Talking so much about the shops in Bras , why not have a look at some of them as they look from the street when you happen to walk by...... Clothes , clothes ... and more clothes.....
and then another dozen items of clothes.... Explained before , this is cheap ( moneywise ) but it's wholesale , so you got to buy a dozen items..... for peanuts....

Absolutely Top Churrascaria
by schurlif about Villa's
This is the "temple" where you pay reverence to some of the best gourmet food available , for me who has eaten out in maybe 50 - 60 countries , different styles (themes) , this is probably among the 5 best restaurants I had the pleasure to know ( and stuff my face with their calories.....) This one is an "expensive churrascaria", about 22 U$ per person....
The ambience is typical for a restaurant of this category but as soon as you get close to the socalled "salad bar" you'll sense the difference.... squid carpaccio , whole roasted octopus tentacles , salmon delights, maybe 6 different kinds of mushrooms-funghi , 2 types of asparagus and a whole battery of other items that I can't think of right now... Behind the salad bar various big pots with wild boar , alligator , pheasant , roasted suckling pig... ( as I didn't know I was going to describe this in detail , I didn't bother to remember but next time I'll even write it down for you...Also the pictures I have of the place don't show what it really looks like...) On the other side of the salon a fully loaded self service sushi bar.... More seafood specialities , like shrimps in oil and garlic , come landing on the table in front of you.... Meats to the excess, non stop... untill you put your little red-green device on red (STOP) and the waiters will let you eat in peace....
Watch out for the tall , big moustached , bald manager who takes care of his guests like a matron... The guy is really great !! I love him.... Everything is good at Villa's..... just get what you like most and you'll enjoy it to the max....
Watch how much you eat so you always have a little more space for the next delicacy....
But......
Chances are you will cry when you walk out of there.... because you weren't able to taste and experiment everything......
( unless you do it like the old Romans who had their food and wine orgies and when they were so filled that they couldn't eat anymore they retired to a special room called "Vovarium" with a slave with a feather..... who --- watch it ! Repulsive ! --- tickled his masters throat with the feather untill....... guess......
Then the master --- emptied and relieved --- would go back , lay down again , drink some wine and continue eating as if their was no tomorrow.....)..
Now that's a real option if you want to try everything at Villas.... !!
Pinacoteca - local Sao Paulo Art
by juicygirl
While MASP was definitely a high point of my sight seeing trip -- the art of Pinacoteca is a MUST to do if you want to feel and see what Sao Paulo's art is really about. Built in a former train station, the building itself is remarkable with wide open spaces and unique use of the building to display several floors of local paintings, sculptures and photographs. While unfortunately most everything is written in Portuqese, the eye candy of art is almost so beautiful that it's self explainatory. I almost feel like after being there that suddenly you grasp better where Sao Paulo's leanings towards beautiful and colorful architecture and design come from.
